Two Cold Puppies Rescued From A Canal In New Orleans, Begging For A Hand To Save Them

Having grown up surrounded by animals, I’ve always understood the immense responsibility that comes with caring for them.

What I can never comprehend, however, is the act of abandoning them—especially when they’re left with no chance of survival.

It’s something I simply cannot support, no matter the circumstances.

Today’s story centers around such a heartless act. Two adorable pit bulls in New Orleans, Louisiana, were callously dumped in a rising canal during a heavy rainstorm, left to face an uncertain and cruel fate.

But fortunately, fate had a different plan for them.

The two pit bulls, later named Francis and Norman, were abandoned by a heartless owner in the 17th Street Canal, a sadly familiar location where people often leave their animals behind.

The poor dogs were terrified, trapped in the canal, unable to escape, and forced to shiver in the relentless downpour, which showed no sign of stopping.

Fortunately, some locals spotted the struggling pups and immediately reached out to Zeus’ Rescue, a local New Orleans non-profit dedicated to helping animals in need.

Even though it was a holiday, two dedicated rescuers responded right away, determined to save Francis and Norman and bring them to safety.

When Michelle, one of the rescuers, arrived with her colleague, they could hear the dogs barking—full of fear and anxiety.

Without a moment’s hesitation, the two women plunged into the canal, determined to reach Francis and Norman.

As they got closer, the dogs’ barks changed, growing louder and higher-pitched, almost resembling barks of excitement rather than fear.

It was as if the two pit bulls suddenly realized that these women weren’t a threat, but were there to help and rescue them.

Michelle and her colleague only had a can of cat food with them, but they were determined to make it work.

They used the food to lure the dogs, and the first one to approach was Francis. They managed to coax her all the way across.

Of course, Norman, not wanting to be left behind, quickly followed his sister. With one big leap, he crossed the deepest part of the canal, finally joining the rescue team.

Once the rescuers managed to get the dogs out of the canal, the next step was to safely load them into the van and transport them to the rescue center.

After ensuring their safety, an emergency vet visit was arranged for both Francis and Norman.

The vet estimated they were around three years old and in great health. They were spayed/neutered, microchipped, and received all the necessary vaccinations.

With everything in order, it was clear: the two pit bulls were now officially ready for adoption!

Both Francis and Norman quickly showed everyone just how amazing they truly were. They were always so happy, and their positive energy was completely contagious.

They loved playing with the shelter staff and other dogs, but their favorite thing by far was soaking up the sun, lounging like two lazy cats – so adorable!

Sadly, the two siblings had to part ways when Norman found his forever home.

As for Francis, she’s still available for adoption. But something tells me this sweet girl won’t have to wait long to find her happily ever after.

Who knows? Maybe you reading this are her perfect match (wink-wink).

All jokes aside, I truly hope Francis finds her forever home soon. I also hope you enjoyed this heartwarming rescue story.
