Two Feral Cats From Arizona Find Each Other After Days Apart Warming Everyone’s Hearts

It’s easy to forget that our feline companions are capable of forming deep bonds and friendships with other cats, much like humans do.

That’s why it’s so surprising when a cat shows signs of depression after losing or being separated from a close friend.

Even more remarkable is witnessing the transformation that follows when two long-lost cats are reunited.

Today’s story is about such a reunion, featuring Sad Boy and Lola, two feral cats from Tucson, Arizona. Their touching bond will melt your heart and remind you of the power of love and friendship.

So, prepare for an emotional ride – and keep some tissues close by, just in case!

The first time Courtney, a cat lady familiar with both kitties, saw Sad Boy, he was perched on her rooftop, quietly observing her from above.

Though he remained calm, he wasn’t exactly sociable. It was clear he had spent most, if not all, of his life as a feral cat, which explained his cautious behavior and reluctance to interact with people.

Courtney did her best to befriend him, but it became apparent that Sad Boy was content with his life as an outdoor cat. All she could do was make sure he had regular meals and treat his mosquito allergy

Then, one day, just as unexpectedly as he had arrived in her yard, Sad Boy disappeared.

Given his feral nature, Courtney wasn’t surprised by his absence. She understood that wandering freely around Tucson, Arizona was simply part of who he was, and there wasn’t much she could do to change that.

The first time Courtney noticed Lola, another feral cat, she was roaming around her neighbor’s yard.

After a few days of leaving food out and trying to gain Lola’s trust, Courtney was finally able to catch her and arrange for her to be spayed.

This experience helped Lola become a little more trusting of Courtney. She started visiting more often and eventually allowed herself to be caught again.

Courtney’s goal was to find a loving foster family for Lola, so she could experience the comforts of indoor life.

Though Courtney’s actions were well-meaning and seemed like a noble effort, it soon became clear that it had been a mistake…

Although Lola was happy and healthy when she first entered foster care, her condition began to deteriorate rapidly after just a couple of weeks.

Around the same time, Sad Boy reappeared in Courtney’s yard, looking worse than ever. He had stopped grooming himself, and his once vibrant white fur had become dull, dirty, and matted.

He seemed more depressed than ever, fully embodying the name he had been given.

At first, Courtney worried that he might be ill, but soon she put the pieces together. Wanting to help him feel better, she decided to bring Lola back, hoping that reuniting them might improve both of their conditions.

Courtney could easily be called a cat whisperer, as her intuition proved spot on. The moment Lola was released, she ran straight to Sad Boy, and his entire demeanor shifted right away.

It was as if he had been holding out hope for her return all along. Courtney was amazed by the transformation she witnessed in Sad Boy by the next day. She shared in a video:

“The very next morning, Sad Boy was a bright, white, clean cat again. Lola spent all night cleaning him, and they literally have not left each other’s side since that moment.”

Once they were reunited, Lola became fiercely protective of Sad Boy, ready to shield him from any perceived danger.

According to Courtney, this fierce lady would undoubtedly give her life for Sad Boy, no questions asked. She said:

“I’ll just be filming Sad Boy, and all of a sudden, she slinks up behind him, and puts herself right there and is like, ‘What are you doing taking a video of my Sad Boy?’”

She’s not just his companion; she’s his steadfast protector – and that’s both sweet and hilarious at the same time!

Sad Boy stepped into the role of a supportive partner for Lola, always making sure her needs were met before his own.

While he’s not as assertive in his protective instincts as Lola is for him, it’s likely because she’s more than capable of looking after herself.

However, Sad Boy’s devotion is clear in his actions, especially during meal times when he ensures Lola eats first, standing guard attentively. Courtney added:

“Sad Boy will always make sure Lola eats first and he’ll kind of stand guard. He’ll be watching to make sure she gets her food first.”

Though Lola is fiercely independent, Sad Boy’s actions are those of a true gentleman, prioritizing her well-being above his.

Together, Sad Boy and Lola are inseparable, sharing their days grooming, cuddling, and exploring their surroundings side by side.

Their bond is the stuff of movies, with moments that seem straight out of a romantic scene.

“Sometimes they’ll be out on their roof as the sun is setting, and it’s literally like they’re watching the sunset together. Or they’ll watch the stars come out.”

Reflecting on their unique relationship, Courtney remarks:

“Living outdoors, before they were even fixed, to bond that closely – I’ve never really seen anything like it. They truly have restored my faith in relationships.”

I couldn’t agree more! Sad Boy and Lola’s story is a powerful reminder of the deep companionship and love animals can share, offering a beautiful example for us all.
