When She Said ‘It’s The Cat Or You,’ She Never Expected This To Happen

Suki never imagined that a small stray cat would completely change the rhythm of her life. Adopting a pet hadn’t been on her to-do list, but fate had a way of stepping in at just the right time.
The turning point came when a friend reached out unexpectedly. She had come across a stray kitten but couldn’t keep her. The little cat needed a safe place to go, and something told her that Suki might be the one to help.

Initially, Suki hesitated. She knew taking in a pet was a big decision—a real commitment that couldn’t be taken lightly. But then she saw the photograph: a tiny, sleek black kitten with piercing golden eyes that seemed to look right through the screen. That was all it took.

One look into those golden eyes, and Suki felt an instant connection she couldn’t ignore. She wasn’t sure why she felt so drawn to this kitty, but something inside her just knew this was meant to be, she recalled in a YouTube video:
“There was something in her eyes, in her look, in her behavior, she was just adorable and I just fell in love with her.”

Convincing her husband was another matter entirely. For four days, the discussion went back and forth. Suki tried every angle to explain why this particular cat had to be part of their family.
Finally, with a half-joking but determined tone, she laid down her final card: it was “either she or you.”
That playful ultimatum did the trick, and soon, plans were made to meet the kitten.

At the foster home, the moment was pure magic. The little black cat walked right up to Suki and her husband, looked at them both, and let out a confident meow as if to say, “I’m ready. Let’s go.” That was all the confirmation Suki needed—they were bringing her home.

They named her Mika. From the moment she stepped through the door, she acted like she belonged.
She found her food bowl, tucked into her meal, used the litter box without fuss, and quickly began exploring every inch of her new home. Before long, she was chasing toys and darting through rooms like she’d always been there.
Life with Mika fit seamlessly into Suki’s world. Running her own children’s school gave her the flexibility to take Mika along for daily activities. What used to be a short, practical walk to work became a leisurely hour-long adventure. Mika enjoyed every moment, and so did Suki.

At the school, Mika would nap peacefully through the afternoons, but the real joy came during the walk home. Suki described their return trips fondly:
“And then the reward, we come back walking all the way home so she can climb all the trees and meet a lot of people and smell and eat the grass, what she loves.”
Weekends brought a whole new set of adventures. Suki and her husband loved camping, and Mika quickly became an enthusiastic travel companion. The moment she saw them packing, she would bounce around in excitement, fully aware that a weekend of fresh air and exploration was on the way. As Suki explained:
“She adores going on a camper van… She smells and when she sees us moving and packing she knows we’re going on the camper van and she absolutely loves it.”
Suki often marvels at Mika’s beauty. Her fur is sleek and glistening, almost with a purple sheen in the light, and those striking golden eyes never fail to capture attention.
“She’s so black that she’s almost purple. Her hair is so shiny, completely black, and her eyes are the most beautiful things in the world.”
But it’s not just Mika’s appearance that makes her so special. It’s the way she seems to understand. Mika notices when Suki is stressed or sad and always finds a way to offer quiet comfort.
“Every cat has this ability to, when you feel sad, when you feel angry, you just cuddle them and you feel much better straight away.”
For Suki, Mika isn’t just a pet—she’s a loyal companion who has filled a space she didn’t know was empty. Adopting her might not have been in the original plan, but now Suki can’t imagine life any other way.
