Indiana Woman Saving A Kitten From Euthanasia Finds Another Fragile Soul

Imagine setting out to save just one kitten, only to discover another tiny soul in need along the way. Instead of rescuing one life, you end up saving two—that’s exactly what happened to Kelley Lawrence Peters.
Kelley, the big-hearted founder of The Kitty Krusade (also known as Justin Fire Survivor), has dedicated her life to helping cats in trouble, always stepping up when they need it most.

One day, Kelley was on her way to the shelter with one mission in mind: to rescue an injured kitten who desperately needed a second chance.
She was determined not to let the little one face euthanasia, believing every cat deserves the opportunity to live and be loved.
But when she arrived, fate had other plans. Right before her eyes, another fragile life appeared, a second kitten also in need of urgent help. Suddenly, her mission shifted. Instead of saving one, she had the chance to rescue two.
For Kelley, moments like this weren’t unusual. As the founder of The Kitty Krusade, she had built her life around stepping in whenever cats needed her.
But this particular day reminded her, and everyone who knows her, just how quickly things can change when you keep your heart open and are always ready to act.

While she was driving down the highway, she spotted another cat lying motionless on the hard shoulder. Kelley explained:
“I did a double take… pulled over immediately. Sure enough, it’s a 6-8 week old kitten, shut from an upper respiratory infection and motionless.”

Just when Kelley feared the kitten had no chance, something incredible happened. As she called out softly, the kitten, weak and fragile, managed to lift her head ever so slightly.
It was a small but powerful gesture, a clear sign that there was still some fight left in her, and that spark of hope was enough to push Kelley forward in her rescue.

After seeing that, Kelley immediately scooped her up and took her. She also decided to name her right away.
She named her Dave because, at that time, she thought the kitty was a male. She said:
“How the kitten got on a very busy six-lane highway, with barrier walls, I don’t know. How no one stopped to help her, I don’t know. But, I’m honored she allowed me to bring her to safety.”

After unexpectedly rescuing Dave, Kelley’s next task was to pick up Mia, a shelter cat with a shattered pelvis.
Kelley understood that she was their only hope, and she was relieved to know they were now in the best hands possible.
Within just three weeks, Mia and Dave began to heal, showing remarkable progress and improving every day.

In the end, both kittens blossomed into joyful, playful cats, ready to find their forever home.
I truly hope they’ve found their perfect humans and are now savoring every moment of their new life together!
