Some cats are independent and prefer enjoying their alone time, while others can’t stand being apart from their humans, constantly seeking love and attention. At least, that’s the case with my feline gang at home.

However, one woman’s attempt to bond with her aloof feline friend gave countless TikTok users a good laugh.

Not All Cats Are Cuddlers

The reasons behind a cat’s cuddly or aloof nature often boil down to two factors: genetics and socialization.
Before adopting a cat, you should know what you are looking for. If you’re looking for a perfect cuddle buddy, then you should consider adopting breeds like Siamese, Ragdoll, Persian, Maine Coon, Scottish Fold, and similar ones.
However, even then, you shouldn’t forget about the importance of socialization.
Kittens that are held and snuggled frequently from a young age are more likely to enjoy physical affection as adults.
Understanding Your Cat’s Body Language
Another thing that can help you a lot in figuring out your cat’s feelings and emotions is their body language.
If your cat purrs, kneads or blinks slowly while being petted, it means they’re enjoying the affection and are happy interacting with you.
On the other hand, if your cat is tense, acting defensive, or trying to escape, it’s best to give them space and let them approach you on their terms.
Every time a cat comes to you, reward them with pets and a treat. Over time, this can help build trust and teach them to enjoy affection.
I’ve had a similar experience with my grandma’s cat, who was never the affectionate type. She loved sleeping in warm, quiet spots and didn’t like being interrupted.
Every time I approached her, she’d hiss or paw at me. However, on rare occasions, she’d come to me on her own for a few minutes of snuggling before going back to her usual routine.
