Alabama Couple Hears Bell-Like Sounds From Their New Couch, Then Freezes When They Flip It Over
It was supposed to be just a simple couch pickup… But what ended up coming home with it was something nobody expected at all.
Samantha Hardin and her husband recently went to pick up a three-piece couch they bought from a coworker. Pretty normal situation, right?
But there was one important warning before they left: keep the door closed during the move. He had just gotten a kitten named Cheeto, and she was curious enough to slip out if given even a small chance.
A few hours later, after the drive and the usual chaos of getting kids settled for bed, the couch finally made it into their home. That’s when things started feeling a little… off.

At first, Samantha noticed her dogs were extremely interested in the couch. Not just normal sniffing around either, more like they were fixated on it.
She figured it was probably just the lingering scent of a cat from the previous owner. But then she heard something faint. A tiny jingle. The sound of a cat collar bell.
She said in an interview:
“I said something to my husband, but it was SO faint, and he kept missing it any time I said anything. It was like every time I pointed it out, the cat got quiet again.”
That’s when things started getting weird. The sound would come and go, almost like it was hiding on purpose.

After an hour or two of second-guessing herself, Samantha decided she wasn’t imagining it. So she flipped part of the couch and heard a sudden thump from inside.
Somehow, Cheeto the kitten had managed to stay hidden inside the couch through everything. The original apartment, three flights of stairs, a car ride, unloading, and bringing it into a new house. All without being noticed or escaping.
At that point, there was no choice but to figure out how to get her out safely.
The couple spent what felt like forever trying different methods, as Samantha shared:
“We probably spent every bit of another hour or two trying to get her out by pssting at her and trying to reach her enough to pet him so she’d be comfortable. Then we started trying dog treats and dog food because that was all I had.”
Nothing worked.

They carefully adjusted the couch, trying different angles and hoping she would slide out on her own. But instead, Cheeto just dug in deeper, holding tight to the inside like it was her new safe spot.
Eventually, they had to cut a larger opening in the bottom panel of the couch. That’s when Samantha was finally able to reach in and gently pull the kitten out.
Cheeto was shaken, but safe.
To keep her secure while they figured out what to do next, they placed her in a dog crate. It was late at night, so they had to wait until morning to contact the owner.
In the meantime, they made her as comfortable as possible. She had water, and they even set up a small makeshift litter box using a cardboard box and pellet litter they had from their ferrets.

When Samantha’s daughter woke up and saw the kitten, she was thrilled. Samantha said:
“She was over the moon. But we told her we had to bring Cheeto back because her real owners missed her.”
And that’s exactly what they did the next morning. The coworker was incredibly relieved and thankful that Cheeto was safe and unharmed.
Even after the reunion, Samantha couldn’t stop thinking about it. She followed up with the owners for about a week just to make sure the kitten was doing okay and adjusting back home.
The TikTok video she posted of the whole couch rescue quickly took off, reaching over 802,700 views and more than 43,200 likes.
