That’s exactly what happened when a woman named Kiersten spotted a lonely dog living beside a highway near Houston, Texas.

At first glance, the scene looked unsettling and heartbreaking all at once. Scrap metal, abandoned shopping carts, rusty debris, and the remains of what looked like a makeshift homeless camp surrounded the area.

And right in the middle of it all sat a dog completely alone.
