California Woman Leaves A Stray Cat At Animal Control, But One Realization Brings Her Rushing Back
A chance encounter near a dumpster led one woman to rescue a stray black cat in rough shape. After leaving him at animal control, she quickly realized they were destined to be together.
A Fateful Walk

When Kat and her friend were walking to her car one day, they spotted a tiny, dark figure lingering near a dumpster.
It was a little black cat, and it was immediately clear that he was in desperately poor condition.
Hoping to get him some professional help, Kat did what she thought was best and took the underweight stray to the local animal control facility.
She assumed their brief encounter was over, but the sweet feline had already left a lasting mark on her heart.
A Conversation In Meows

Before they had scooped him up, the little cat had made the first move.
As Kat approached the dumpster, the stray looked up and meowed directly at her.
"I meowed back, and then he ran up to us," Kat shared with GeoBeats.
They quickly discovered he was incredibly underweight and didn’t have a microchip, leaving him entirely alone in the world.
Unable To Let Go

Even after dropping him off at animal control, Kat found that she couldn’t get the little cat out of her head.
She found herself constantly thinking about him and emailing the facility to check on his status.
Kat knew the sad reality of animal rescue: black cats are often overlooked and have a much harder time getting adopted.
Worried about his future, she finally picked up the phone and called animal control to see if anyone had claimed him.
A Beautiful Realization

When Kat called, the staff confirmed that the little black cat was unfortunately still sitting in his kennel.
In that moment, everything clicked into place for her.
"Little did I know, he had already found a home," Kat explained. "It was my home."
She immediately made arrangements to go back to the facility and officially adopt the cat she couldn’t stop thinking about.
The Best Car Ride Ever
The reunion at the animal control center was nothing short of magical.
Kat remembers the exact moment she picked him up, noting that his whole face absolutely lit up.
He was so grateful to be back in her arms that he sat right in her lap for the entire car ride back to her house.
He purred the whole way home, proving that he knew exactly where he belonged.
Embracing His Quirks
Kat decided to name her new best friend Uno, a nod to the fact that he was missing an ear.
Because of the rough condition he was in when she found him, Uno had also lost a lot of his teeth.
This dental issue means his lip sometimes gets stuck on a tooth, causing him to unintentionally make funny, weird faces.
Some people have rudely assumed he is an "ugly" cat based on descriptions, but Kat thinks he is absolutely perfect just the way he is.
An Unusually Chill Adventurer
As Uno settled into his new life, Kat discovered that he was an incredibly relaxed and wise cat.
She started putting him on a leash and taking him for walks outside.
While he wasn’t overly enthusiastic about the exercise, his attitude was generally, "I’m not opposed to this."
He is even great with neighborhood dogs, gently letting them walk up to him without ever making a fuss.
Demanding The Spotlight
Despite his tough past on the streets, Uno absolutely loves attention from strangers.
When they go on walks, he gets genuinely offended if people walk by without stopping to pet him, stopping in his tracks to stare them down.
Kat often has to ask willing strangers, "Please pet my cat," so Uno doesn’t take the rejection personally.
When people are open to saying hello, Uno’s weirdly kind personality shines through.
Destined For Each Other
When the world shifted to remote work, Kat was thrilled because it meant she could spend all day with Uno.
They are equally responsible for their level of clinginess, and Uno even sleeps like a "cutie-patootie" on a suitcase under her bed.
As he ages, he loves sitting on her lap even more than before.
"I do think Uno’s my soulmate," Kat shared with a smile. "Him and I were destined for each other."
