When a mass hoarding situation was uncovered in Louisiana, rescuers were met with a heartbreaking scene. Around 30 cats were found living in a single house.

The home belonged to a breeder who had recently been moved into assisted living. Left behind, the cats were in desperate need of help and a second chance.

The breeder’s son eventually gathered the animals, putting them in his car and turning them over to a local rescue group.

Among the dozens of faces was one tiny feline named Nonna. Even in the chaos of the rescue, she immediately stood out to everyone who met her.

Despite everything she had been through, Nonna was absolutely desperate for human love and attention.

As rescuers looked closer at Nonna’s history, the reality of her past began to sink in.

Because she came from an intense breeding situation, they estimated the toll it had taken on her small body.

Rescuers believed she could have been forced to have up to three litters a year for eight long years.

When Haley saw photos of the tiny cat and spoke with the rescue group, her heart broke.

She felt incredibly sad that Nonna had endured such a difficult life, and she instantly knew it felt right to bring the sweet cat into her own family.

To give the Louisiana cats a better chance at adoption, the rescue organized a massive transport.

The animals were driven all the way up the East Coast, finally arriving in Rhode Island.

Haley didn’t hesitate. She drove straight from Connecticut to Rhode Island just to pick up Nonna.

When they finally met, Nonna was waiting inside a little crate. She looked incredibly tiny and so scared of her new surroundings.

Looking at the frightened feline, Haley just remembered thinking that she completely wanted to look after this little one.

Once Nonna arrived at her new home in Connecticut, she was understandably very shy.

Her first instinct was to hide away in the safety of a tall cat tree.

But her desire for love quickly overpowered her fear. Within just a few days, she started coming over to her new family.

She wanted gentle strokes and even began showing her tummy to ask for tickles.

It was the first sign that Nonna was finally realizing she was safe.

Meeting Her New Sibling

Haley’s family already included another adopted cat named Stevie.

Introducing a new pet can be tricky, but Nonna was incredibly excited to meet Stevie.

The two cats hit it off and quickly began playing with each other around the house.

Even though Nonna could be up to four years older than Stevie, she immediately took on the role of the little sister.

Stevie became her guide to living a normal, happy life as a beloved pet.

The Ultimate Copycat

As Nonna settled in, Haley noticed that she was always copying everything Stevie did.

Because both cats have little legs, they look like adorable "little columns of fluff" that you can barely see.

When treats are offered, they both stand straight up on their hind legs like meerkats.

Nonna also perfectly mimics Stevie’s movements, including a charming little stair hop that everyone loves.

In fact, Nonna is the biggest copycat. The minute Stevie leaves a spot she was sitting in, Nonna immediately moves over to sit right there.

Finding Her Voice

Nonna’s personality proved to be entirely unique, especially when it came to how she communicated.

When Haley first adopted her, the tiny cat didn’t really know how to meow properly.

Instead, she would just let out little squeaks when she wanted attention.

But as she grew more confident, her voice changed into something truly special.

Now, she makes a distinct sound that literally sounds like she is saying "hello" to her family.

Making Up For Lost Time

Today, Nonna is living the carefree life she was denied for so many years.

She is very vocal, especially in the middle of the night, and is definitely the most likely to wake the house up with her squeaks.

But Haley doesn’t mind the midnight wake-up calls at all.

Knowing how tough Nonna’s past was, Haley has a massive soft spot for her and loves seeing her act like a sweet, happy little kitten.

After surviving a hoarding house and years of breeding, Nonna’s only job now is to enjoy her lovely life.
