When our cats go missing, it’s like all hell breaks loose. We start posting their photos online, taping flyers around the neighborhood, and worrying ourselves sick about their safety. It’s the worst thing that can happen to any cat parent.
Not knowing where your cat is and imagining the worst scenarios is nerve-wracking, and sometimes this anxiety goes on for days.
A family from Long Island, New York, recently had this exact experience. Their beloved cat Lilly disappeared for a whole week, which was completely out of character for her.
They were so worried about her, and then, after 7 long days, their fluffball made an unexpected return in the most cat-like way possible.
Believe it or not, this silly cat showed up at their door in the middle of the night and actually rang the doorbell to be let in!
Can you imagine being sound asleep and suddenly hearing the doorbell ring after midnight?
The family must have been terrified at first, but when they realized it was their missing kitty, they were overjoyed and relieved.

Isn’t this the best thing you’ve seen today? After searching for their cat for 7 days without success, Lilly decided to come home all on her own and even rang the doorbell to announce her arrival. What a smart kitty!
The moment her family opened the door, Lilly bolted inside, evidently happy to finally be back. Roaming the great outdoors is great and all, but having a loving home to call your own is something entirely different!
In an interview with PIX11 News, a New York-based television station, Lilly’s owner Stefanie shared that her cat often ventured outside to explore, but she always came back home.
However, on one particular day, Lilly didn’t return, which worried the entire family.
Stefanie explained that one night she got a notification from her ring camera indicating someone was at the door. She rushed to check it, not expecting to see her missing cat. But to her surprise, it was Lilly!
Describing the family’s reaction, she said:
“We all gasped. We were laughing, we were emotional, we were crying. It was a great moment because she clearly knew what she was doing with the ring camera.”
People in the YouTube comment section loved this little fluffball. One person wrote:
“That’s just WONDERFUL – smart kitty. Hopefully, kitty won’t go missing again. Too many predators outdoors, unsupervised.”
Another person jokingly commented:
“He wasn’t missing. He just didn’t like the new menu at his second family’s house. So he came back. Little traitor.”
Some suggested that the cat had just taken a little vacation, but everyone agreed that she was adorable – a conclusion I wholeheartedly support!
