The day that Prada walked into the shelter, it was pretty obvious that this 5-year-old stray kitty was expecting.
Everyone at the shelter thought for sure she was pregnant, especially since they’ve found out she was unspayed.
But life is full of surprises, and Prada’s supposed pregnancy soon took an unexpected turn. As it turned out, this adorable calico feline was indeed expecting—but not kittens!
A kind woman who knew this cat throughout years of her outdoor wanderings, mentioned that Prada was no stranger to motherhood as she had already given birth to three litters of kittens.
Through all three pregnancies, and life in general, this woman had supported her by providing food, water, and a semblance of the love and security this stray lacked.
As Émilie Lafleur, the shelter’s coordinator, shared in an interview:
“Prada was a cat who lived outside and had repeated pregnancies. A lady had been feeding her for a long time and entrusted her to us seeing that she had a big belly.”
Though Prada had been a stray all her life, she thankfully had someone looking out for her, recognizing the necessity of bringing this lovely feline to the shelter, especially during such a vulnerable time.
To ensure that Prada and her kittens were healthy, the shelter staff scheduled an urgent ultrasound exam with the vet, fully unaware of what they were about to find out…
The results shocked everyone at the shelter! It turned out that Prada’s big belly wasn’t full of kittens but was instead the result of the generous meals the woman had been feeding her.
Yup, that’s right! Prada wasn’t pregnant; she was just a bit chubby, and the only thing she was expecting was probably another delicious meal, haha.
Everyone at the shelter was both surprised and amused by this discovery. However, they were also relieved. As Émilie put it:
“At first, it was funny. But then it was a relief! [It meant] she wouldn’t have to have any more babies.”
Following this hilarious revelation, they made sure to spay Prada to prevent any future surprises.
Rather than releasing her, the shelter decided to put her up for adoption, determined to find her the perfect forever home.
According to Émilie, Prada is one shy, but affectionate kitty, who truly deserves a loving family and an owner to call her own.
