Numerous shelter cats and kittens wait every day for their happily ever after. However, this tiny furball turned out to be incredibly fortunate when he crossed paths with compassionate animal rescuer and fosterer, Nikki, from Las Vegas.
When she saw him, small and alone at the municipal shelter, she just couldn’t turn a blind eye, and immediately stepped in to help.
Nikki reached out to the shelter to offer her help, but soon after, she learned a harsh truth.
There was a specific reason why this tiny kitten, named Davie, was in urgent need of help. The realization broke Nikki’s heart. She shared in an interview:
“It was only after I offered that the shelter told me he had some kind of abnormality with his front legs.”
Despite this, Nikki welcomed him into her loving home and began providing round-the-clock care.
Fortunately, Davie quickly settled into his new home. In the beginning, he spent most of his time snuggled in warm blankets next to his faux mama plushie.
But, despite having one bent paw, Davie revealed a brave and courageous spirit, determined to fight for his chance at life.
At the same time, he constantly sought attention and cuddles from his foster mama. Nikki added:
“He’s such a sweet boy, and I can’t help but smother him with snuggles and kisses.”
Davie was born with a congenital abnormality in his front paws, but Nikki never missed an opportunity to help him make the best of it. She shared:
“His right arm is bent like a chicken wing, but he still uses it with limited mobility. Initially, I had x-rays taken at the vet, and they were sent to an orthopedic veterinarian. However, in time, it seems that his left leg strengthened, and he was able to put pressure on his paw instead of walking on that elbow.”
Still, Davie refused to let his abnormality stop him from living his best life. Soon, he was jumping, climbing, and running around like any other kitten.
Slowly but surely, he learned to live with it and continued to improve every day. Nikki said:
“Over the last several weeks, he has grown and is getting stronger, and his mobility is increasing.”
Thanks to Nikki’s help, determination, and lots of exercise, Davie was finally able to use his left front leg to support himself. His incredible progress made Nikki incredibly proud. She added:
“Nothing holds him back; he’s able to climb in and out of bed, play with toys, and get himself in and out of the litter box with no challenges. He has an incredibly sweet disposition.”
Seeing his remarkable improvement, the vets agreed that surgery wasn’t necessary for this little guy.
Despite his disability, Davie is a happy kitten thriving in his foster home with Nikki, who constantly showers him with love and care. He also has a special bond with her blind foster cat, Stella, whom Davie faithfully follows everywhere.
At first, Davie’s fate didn’t seem promising. He was a shelter kitten with a disability, and his chances for adoption were lower than those of completely healthy cats and kittens.
However, thanks to Nikki, Davie has come a long way, and now he can’t wait to see what the future holds. Let’s all hope it’s only the best because he deserves nothing less.
