Abandoned Cat Found Hiding Behind Carrier In New York Park, Desperate For A New Chance At Life

Rescue organizations across the U.S. face numerous challenges and heartbreaking situations every day, and the PuppyKittyNYCity Rescue in New York is no exception.

It all happened one day when Meagan, the president of the rescue, received an urgent call about a cat in desperate need of help.

A few kind-hearted people had heard desperate cries in a park. Curious, they followed the sounds and made a heartbreaking discovery.

A beautiful cat was hiding behind a carrier, waiting for help. What broke their hearts even more was how affectionate the cat was. Realizing he needed help, they called the rescue.

The poor feline appeared lost, confused, hungry, and thirsty. But his luck was about to change, thanks to Meagan and her dedicated rescue team.

When the team arrived to pick him up, they met a young woman who had been feeding the cat for some time, meaning he had been abandoned longer than they thought.

But that was now in the past. The rescuers brought him to their center and immediately provided him with delicious food, which he eagerly devoured.

After eating, he fell fast asleep in his new bed and finally had the chance to rest peacefully.

Meagan affectionately named him Lincoln, after the place where he was found, and was determined to give him the life he deserved.

Despite all the care and attention he received, Lincoln was understandably nervous. But that didn’t bother Meagan.

She knew that in time, she would earn his trust, and the way to his heart was through food. So, she wasted no time.

Meagan continued to feed Lincoln every day. At first, he would growl while eating to protect his food. 

But slowly, he began to realize that Meagan was a friend. He softened and even started eating directly from her hand.

Within a few days, Meagan noticed significant progress. Lincoln even allowed her to pet him during his mealtime. She shared in an interview:

“Watching a foster cat learn to trust is one of the most rewarding experiences. He has been recovering with me for weeks and is doing so much better. He still has food insecurity, likely because he was abandoned outside with no way to find food. He runs to the food bowl every time he hears a can open and inhales it.”

Once Lincoln fully recovers from the trauma he endured, he’ll be ready for a forever home. However, Meagan believes he’ll need a special home. She said:

“He needs a patient forever home who will understand that he is still learning to trust his meals will always be here.”

Beyond his food insecurity, Lincoln’s true personality began to shine. He became curious, friendly, and playful, exploring every corner of his new surroundings.

When he’s not exploring, he seeks attention from his caretakers. Meagan couldn’t be prouder of his progress. She said:

“He is a resilient little survivor with a heart full of love. He’s been through a lot, but despite his rough start, he remains incredibly sweet and affectionate.”

Lincoln made remarkable progress each day and was eventually placed in a foster home.

Now, he is thriving with his foster family and finally has everything he deserves. The only thing left is to hope he will soon find his forever home and never again have to worry about food or shelter.
