Vet Walks Into A Kennel To Share Dinner With A Rescue Dog, The Reason Will Leave You In Tears

Sometimes, giving your best to help a soul in need can change both your lives forever. This is the story of how one broken pup found hope and healing with the person who refused to let her go.
It all started with a call. A woman had found a struggling dog while driving down a remote country road.
She couldn’t take the dog home or afford the treatment, and she didn’t know anyone who could help. Still, the idea of walking away just felt impossible.

So, she called Dr. Andy Mathis, unsure of what to do. Dr. Mathis listened carefully, and after considering the situation, he decided that bringing the dog in was the best option.
At least, by doing that, he could assess her condition and figure out what kind of help she needed, as he shared in a YouTube video:
“I didn’t have a good answer for her. To be honest, it frustrated me a little because I can’t afford to treat every stray dog out there either. I whined about it before finally came to the conclusion, to bring her in, and let me look at her.”

When the pup arrived at the clinic, she was in terrible shape. She had no name and no sign of where she came from, just a frail body that had been through way too much.
She was weak, dehydrated, and severely underweight. On top of that, she had a prolapse that caused other health issues, as Dr. Mathis explained:
“She was anemic (hematocrit- 20%), dehydrated, emaciated, had a prolapse and problem urinating because of the prolapse, and hypothermic (temp of 95). She weighed 20 lbs.”

The pup needed help fast, and Dr. Mathis jumped into action, determined to give her a fighting chance.
But there was another problem. The little dog was so scared that she wouldn’t even look at the food Dr. Mathis had put out for her. She just huddled in the corner of her kennel and trembled.
So, instead of just leaving her to figure things out on her own, Dr. Mathis decided to stay right by her. What he did next was just amazing.

He stepped right into the kennel and sat down next to the pup. He moved slowly and made sure not to overwhelm her.
He didn’t want her to feel like she was the only one eating, so he grabbed himself a bowl of food, hoping that seeing him do it might make her feel more comfortable.
He didn’t say much, just sat quietly and munched on his food. The dog looked at him for a moment, clearly unsure but also curious.

Dr. Mathis then offered her small bites of food with his hand. She took a cautious sniff at it and then finally started to nibble.
He stayed right there with her, letting her eat at her own pace. With each bite, Dr. Mathis could tell that the pup was beginning to feel a little more at ease.
A few weeks later, she made incredible progress. Her appetite was back, and she even gained some weight.

And then, Dr. Mathis made another heartwarming gesture. He set up a charity fund to cover the dog’s treatments and upcoming surgery.
Before long, the people in the community rallied around her. They gave from their hearts, making sure this sweet dog had everything she needed to heal.
They even gave her a name: Graycie Claire.

Thanks to the kindness of the community, Graycie’s future went from uncertain and full of fear to hopeful and full of love.
Dr. Mathis was so grateful to everyone involved, sharing:
“The community rallied behind her and took up funds to begin treatment with… I might have been the one driving the bus for Team Graycie Claire, but they were the ones putting gas in it. And for that, and for being there, I am grateful. So is Graycie Claire.”

And then came the most beautiful part of all: Graycie Claire found her forever home with Dr. Mathis, the very person who stood by her from the start.
Now, she’s thriving under his care, safe and loved in the arms of the man who never gave up on her.
