Michigan Owner Takes Her Dog To Daycare For Socialization, Only To Witness Something Unexpected

What many people don’t seem to understand is that every dog is different, just like humans.

Some are naturally social and outgoing, while others are more reserved. That’s why every dog needs a different approach to truly thrive.

This is especially important to keep in mind when adopting a dog. If you live a busy life, a highly dependent pup might not be the right fit. Otherwise, you might end up in a situation like Nikki Sykora from Michigan.

Nikki is a full-time student at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry and the proud owner of a Mini Bernedoodle named Maisy.

Although she adores Maisy, her demanding schedule leaves her with limited time to spend with her furry friend.

However, Nikki came up with what she thought would be a perfect solution – dog daycare.

There, your dog spends time with experienced caretakers and other dogs with whom they can hang out. However, what Nikki didn’t know was that the daycare doesn’t work for every pup…

Instead of running around with the other dogs and having a blast, Maisy did something completely unexpected.

Nikki left Maisy at the daycare and went to the University. Later that day, she decided to take a look at Maisy, as the daycare has a camera that records everything so that the owners can check on their dogs.

However, after taking a look, Nikki was shocked to see Maisy doing something far from what she expected.

While all the other dogs were happily playing together, Maisy was sitting alone, far from the group.

She isolated herself, looking miserable. Initially, Nikki was disappointed by Maisy’s reaction and felt sad for her. On the other hand, she knew that such behavior was nothing strange for Maisy.

Maisy had always been more people-oriented. Socializing with other dogs just wasn’t her thing. Eventually, she started warming up to the pet sitters at the daycare and began feeling more comfortable in her own way.

Moved by what happened, Nikki decided to share a clip of Maisy’s reaction to daycare on TikTok, with a layover text that says:

“Signed my puppy up for day-care so she can start making friends and socialize.”

In the video’s caption, she joked:

“She’s 100% my daughter though, lol.”

What happened next left her stunned. While Nikki knew that the post would gain a lot of attention, she had no idea it would go completely viral.

TikTok users were amazed, leaving numerous reactions in the comments. One user wrote:

“She’s protecting her peace.”

Another person shared a similar experience:

“I remember bringing my shitzu to dog park and I sat on a bench to watch him play with other dogs, only for him to sit next to me and watch the dogs as well.”

You see, some dogs thrive on playing with others, and some just want to stick close to their humans. Those differences are part of what makes them special.

With no other option, Nikki continued taking Maisy to the daycare twice a week, and that’s when something surprising happened.

Slowly but surely, Maisy started coming out of her shell and interacting with other dogs as well.

She made huge progress and now, besides spending time with caretakers, she’s also running around with her new dog friends, having the time of her life.
