Tiny Helpless Puppy Found Abandoned Near Dumpster In Mississippi
Recently, Lisa Reams, founder of Saving Grace Animal Rescue, received a distressing call about a tiny puppy allegedly dumped in a dumpster in Yazoo City, Mississippi.
Without hesitation, Lisa rushed to the scene, determined to help. But when she arrived, there was no sign of the puppy.
Unwilling to give up, she began searching the area, calling out and checking every corner. After nearly an hour of looking, her heart sank when she finally spotted him.
The helpless little pup was huddled beside the dumpster, trembling, with no food or water in sight. Exhausted and frightened, he looked up at her as if silently pleading for help.
Rescue Mission
As soon as Lisa spotted the puppy, she could see the fear in his eyes. She knew she would have to approach slowly and carefully if she wanted to gain his trust. But when she began speaking softly to him, the frightened pup panicked and tried to crawl under the dumpster to escape.
Thankfully, Lisa was quicker. She reached out and gently scooped him up, though the little one didn’t understand yet that she was there to help. He whimpered, growled, and squirmed in her arms, desperate to break free.
Lisa’s heart shattered. This wasn’t just a puppy who was scared — he was also suffering. His tiny body was weak, starved of food, and crawling with worms. Every sign pointed to a life of neglect and abandonment.
But in that moment, everything began to change. With Lisa’s determination and compassion, his nightmare was finally coming to an end.
After a few gentle pats and comforting words, the puppy, later named Oscar, finally started to feel at ease.
Before bringing Oscar to safety, Lisa decided to check the area to make sure there were no other puppies. She shared on TikTok:
“I did a thorough search of the area, looked inside the dumpsters, underneath the dumpsters with a flashlight, he was the only one here.”
After that, Lisa scanned Oscar, but sadly, he had no microchip. He had been heartlessly abandoned and left to face the world alone. Fortunately, he was rescued just in time.
Oscar Gets A Second Chance At Life
Lisa wanted to take Oscar to Saving Grace Animal Rescue, however, the rescue was at capacity, so she had to find another solution.
After thinking for a while, she contacted Angie Young, the founder of Southern Mutts, a rescue in Greenwood, Mississippi. She promised to take Oscar into their care and find him a forever home once he’s ready.
Until then, Lisa decided it was best for her to foster Oscar, and that’s exactly what she did. She brought him home, fed him, and gave him a warm bath.
The next day, she took him to the vet. The vets estimated he was around six weeks old, and a thorough examination revealed he had hookworm and ringworm infections.
He was given the necessary medications and returned home with his foster mom, Lisa. She took great care of Oscar and helped him adjust to his new life.
Oscar’s Huge Transformation
At first, Oscar was timid and unsure, retreating into himself after all he had endured. But with Lisa’s patient and gentle care, he slowly began to trust again. Bit by bit, his true personality started to shine through.
Day by day, Oscar grew stronger, healthier, and more confident. What was once a fragile, frightened puppy blossomed into a playful and affectionate companion. Before long, he had completely embraced his new life, turning into an absolute cuddlebug who couldn’t get enough love and attention.
The only piece missing from Oscar’s story now is a forever home. Until that day comes, he’ll remain with Lisa, continuing to grow stronger and prepare for the happy life ahead of him.
Once he’s fully ready, he’ll begin his search for the perfect family — and it’s hard to imagine it will take long. With his sweet nature and loving spirit, Oscar is bound to capture someone’s heart in no time. After all, who could possibly resist him?
