Indianapolis Shelter Volunteer Gives A New Chance To A Young Kitten Marked As ‘Immediate’

One day, Lori White, a volunteer with ARPO (The Alliance for Responsible Pet Ownership), went for a routine visit to her local shelter.

In addition to being a volunteer, Lori had several foster kittens and didn’t plan on adopting more. But that trip to the shelter changed everything.

During the visit, she met a young kitten full of energy that captured her heart and changed her mind.

It all started when Lori came across a young kitten marked as ‘immediate’ due to a lack of space. Little did she know at the time, the tiny kitten had already chosen her. Lori shared in an interview:

“I went to look at the kittens in need for other fosters, and this little girl (Lavender) was marked as ‘immediate’ due to lack of space. Single kittens are hard on shelters because they have one small kitten taking up an entire cage.”

Lori reached her hand into the cage to pet the kitten, and suddenly, Lavender’s purring filled the room.

Though Lori hadn’t planned to take in more foster kittens, her heart broke after learning about Lavender’s situation. That’s when she decided to step in and help. Lori added:

“She’s about seven weeks old and weighs a little over two pounds.”

So, Lori took Lavender to her office and provided her with a cozy space until she was ready to meet the resident cats.

Fortunately, Lavender’s reaction was better than expected. She quickly embraced the role of Lori’s four-legged assistant. Lori shared:

“Lavender probably has the bluest eyes of any kitten I have seen. She is having a great time being my office assistant, hanging out in her bed, and playing in my office during her quarantine time. She purrs at all times and is quite the hopper.”

Lavender quickly settled in. As soon as she arrived at the office, she leaped into Lori’s lap, ensuring she was the center of attention.

Even though Lori couldn’t get much work done with a kitten in her lap or wrapped around her hand, she was certainly entertained. Not only did Lavender light up the room with her energy, but she also lit Lori’s heart.

The moment Lavender left the shelter, she began revealing her true personality and transforming into a fluffy little troublemaker.

Soon, the time came for Lavender to meet the resident cats, and it’s safe to say she loved it.

She spent her time zooming around the house, filling the rooms with play and joy, while also letting everyone know who was in charge.

Besides the resident cats, Lavender also met one of the resident dogs. She greeted him with gentle nose taps and playfully tried to wrestle him.

Then, she continued making a mess in the kitchen while her canine friend stayed nearby, enjoying her chaotic performance.

Lavender spent days thriving in her foster home, but then something amazing happened.

A loving family came to visit her. Everyone waited for Lavender’s reaction, but she pulled off a perfect trick.

She turned on her charm, and the family instantly fell in love with her, especially the young boy. Lori added:

“He has his room all set up for her, a beautiful sunroom full of cat trees and window perches.”

And just like that, Lavender’s dream of having a forever home and a loving family finally came true. Lori sadi:

“Her name is officially Kellyn Lavender. Despite all of her craziness, she is very sweet and always brings a laugh.”

I’m so happy for Lavender and for the fact that she found her forever humans, who will love and cherish her for the rest of her life.
