Colorado Woman Saves Anxious Mama Cat And Her Four Kittens, Ready To Help Them Find Happiness

Recently, Heidi Shoemaker, the founder of Foster Kitten Mama in Colorado, stepped in to help this adorable feline family of five find their happy endings.
The mother cat, a timid tuxedo named Rory, and her four kittens arrived at the shelter after being rescued from the streets.
As soon as Heidi learned about this family, she immediately stepped in to help. She arrived at the shelter only to find Rory huddled in the corner of her kennel, guarding her babies.
Determined to help, Heidi gently scooped them up and safely transported them to her home to start a new life in foster care.

Wanting to make the feline family feel comfortable in their new home, Heidi set up a quiet, safe space for them. However, Rory was incredibly anxious when she first arrived.
She was constantly licking her lips and trying to hide from everyone. But despite her fear, she was a sweet cat who just needed time and space to relax and adjust to her new life.

Finally, after nearly five hours of trying to hide in the room, something heartwarming happened. Heidi shared in an interview:
“She finally jumped in the nest (to be with her kittens) after about five hours.”
Rory spent time caring for her babies, but she still needed time to get used to Heidi’s presence.

Whenever Heidi came to weight the kittens, Rory would slip behind the box. Heidi added:
“She jumps out of the nest and hides when I come over, but that makes it easier to scoop them up in their old blanket to replace with a fresh one, weigh each one, and then put them back.”
In the meantime, the kittens grew bigger and stronger. At two weeks old, they finally started opening their eyes, but they also began experiencing stomach issues.

Thankfully, Heidi was always by their side, caring for them and ensuring they made a full recovery.
As the kittens continued to grow, they started coming out of their shells, revealing their true personalities.
Tierney, the Siamese mix, was the loudest of them all and wasn’t afraid to use her voice. Every time Rory stepped away for too long, Tierney would scream at the top of her lungs until Rory returned.

Over that period of time, Rory showed some progress as well. Heidi said:
“Sweet Mama Rory still doesn’t want me to touch her, but she will eat with me right outside the pen. She likes the treats I leave around for her and will creep a bit closer to eat them.”
Once the kittens started walking, Heidi moved them into a larger space where they could explore and continue to grow.

Rory’s eyes softened, and she appeared more relaxed, but she still kept her distance from Heidi.
When the kittens were old enough, they were put up for adoption and quickly found loving homes in pairs.
Though Heidi was happy for them, she worried about Rory, as mother cats, especially timid ones, are often overlooked.

Still, she hoped Rory would find a family willing to give her the time and patience she needed to thrive. Then, something surprising happened.
Heidi received an application she’d been waiting for. She said:
“I had a wonderful woman contact me about Rory, saying she’s an empty nester like Rory will be and has a lot of time to devote to her. She’s ready to give her the time and space she needs to flourish.”

Soon, Rory joined her new mom in her forever home. She had a hard start in life, but now, all she needs to do is thrive.
Every cat deserves to have a home and be loved, and I’m just happy that a cat like Rory found her happiness.
