Fearless Siamese Cat In Idaho Risks Everything To Save Dog From Life-Threatening Danger

Few things are more terrifying than witnessing one dog viciously attacking another. That is, unless a brave cat decides to step in and save the day.
A similar event took place in Nampa, Idaho, where a dog faced a long recovery after being savagely attacked by another dog.
Michaella Franklin, the dog’s owner, was forced to witness the disturbing sight of the brutal attack unfold right in her own garage.

It was an ordinary Saturday, and Franklin was busy with chores around the house and yard when a large dog, belonging to a neighbor, suddenly appeared in front of her house.
She recalled the frightening moment in an interview, saying:
“It just kind of looked at me, and I’m looking around like, where is the owner of this dog? Then it saw my dog and it ran into my garage, and my dog kind of hunkered down for safety and it just mauled her.”
Franklin’s seven-year-old dog, Bailey, had no way to defend herself against the much larger, aggressive dog.
Even though Franklin tried to separate the dogs by grabbing their collars, her efforts were futile.

Desperate to protect Bailey, she even resorted to using a bike pump to push the attacking dog away, but that didn’t work either. Franklin recalled:
“It seemed like it went on for ten or fifteen minutes.”
Just when things seemed hopeless, an unexpected hero arrived. Franklin’s Siamese cat, Mocha, ran out of the house after hearing the chaos.
Mocha’s timely intervention distracted the aggressive dog, giving Bailey the chance to escape.

If it hadn’t been for Mocha, the brave cat, it’s hard to say what might have happened to Bailey. Franklin stated:
“Bailey is alive today due to my cat, Mocha, without a doubt.”
While she was grateful that Bailey survived, Franklin was also in shock and felt that someone needed to be held responsible for what had happened.
Nampa Animal Control informed her that the owner of the attacking dog had been cited for the incident. However, animal-on-animal attacks are handled differently by authorities compared to attacks on people.
Shelly Duff, an Animal Control Officer in Nampa, explained:
“It is different because we’re dealing with nature, and we’re more concerned with public safety, safety of people.”
She clarified that dog attacks on other dogs are generally not seen as threats to human safety, as they tend to resemble a predator-prey interaction and typically don’t involve humans being directly threatened.

Although Bailey survived, he suffered serious injuries, including deep bite wounds that required expensive surgery. The veterinary costs came close to $2,000. Duff explained:
“We will request the vet bills and we will put them in the report, and when they go to court the prosecuting attorney can ask that the dog owner, of the attacking dog, pay the bills.”
After the surgery, Bailey was brought home to recover, with Mocha the cat constantly by his side, never leaving him. Franklin fondly remarked:
“They’re like brother and sister, basically.”

Heroes come in many forms. In this remarkable situation, Mocha, a courageous cat with a big heart and soft fur, showed that you don’t need a cape to be a true hero!
