Bikers Cycling Around Colombia Slam On Brakes After Hearing Cries In The Woods

What began as a challenging three-day cycling trip through the rugged terrain of Colombia turned into something far more meaningful for Nicolás Pradilla and his trainer, Héctor Ramírez.
The two competitive bikers were nearing the end of their journey when a spur-of-the-moment decision to take a more difficult trail led them to an unexpected rescue and a life-changing bond.
The pair had deviated from their planned route to tackle a steep 25-mile uphill climb. It was a tough stretch, and they were determined to push through to the finish.
But halfway up the climb, something stopped them. Nicolás recalled:
“Héctor heard some noises that sounded like birds. When we looked down, two abandoned puppies were there.”

Nestled beneath thick brush, the tiny pups were covered in dirt and shivering. It was clear they had been left alone for quite a while.
Despite the physical demands of their ride and the long journey still ahead, the bikers didn’t hesitate. Nicolás said in an interview:
“We decided to take them with us immediately. Even though we still had quite a climb and more than 6 hours of travel ahead of us.”

With no supplies or way to carry the puppies safely, the men did what they could: they tucked the babies under their shirts.
Héctor scooped up one pup and tucked him against his chest, then passed the second to Nicolás, who did the same.
As they pedaled through the mountains, the puppies stayed warm and secure, nestled close to their rescuers’ hearts. Initially, the men had planned to find homes for the pups once they reached their destination.

But after six hours of riding with the little ones by their side, something changed. Nicolás said:
“The initial idea was to help them and find them a home. After having them there for more than 6 hours, we decided to keep them ourselves.”
Héctor named his puppy Remi, and Nicolás named his Tinto, after Colombia’s beloved black coffee. The bond was immediate, and the decision to adopt felt natural.

At home, the puppies quickly settled in. They were safe, loved, and finally part of a family. But the rescue didn’t just change the puppies’ lives; it transformed the lives of their new dads, too.
At the time, Nicolás was living with his parents, who already had several dogs. Wanting to give Tinto space of his own, Nicolás made a big decision: he moved out and found a place where he and Tinto could start fresh together. He explained:
“The whole process of looking for a home has been quite wonderful for me, too. Not only did he find a home, but I did, too.”

Now, months after their rescue, Remi and Tinto are thriving. Tinto has been recovering from a deworming treatment, which kept him from going on many adventures.
But he’s feeling better now, and Nicolás is already planning their next ride together.
“We’re already planning a ride and to re-live those moments.”

These two cyclists and two puppies had an unforgettable journey through the Colombian mountains. While the trail was steep, the path to love was clear.
