Shy One-Eyed Kitten Learns To Love Again In His New Home In LA
When a tiny tabby kitten named Candy Cane arrived at the Blue Cross shelter, she was terrified, trembling, and in pain. Her injured eye was beyond saving, and surgery was the only way to give her a chance at a better life.
What began as a heartbreaking start soon turned into a journey of healing, trust, and love.
At the Animal Hospital, staff immediately recognized her urgent need for care. They later shared on their Facebook page:
“Candy is only a youngster and found herself in need of help as she had a ruptured eye, we aren’t sure how this happened to her. Candy underwent surgery to remove the ruptured eye, we also neutered and microchipped her at the same time.”
The surgery not only relieved her pain but also gave her the chance to start fresh. Afterward, Candy was placed in a foster home where she could recover in comfort and begin to learn that the world wasn’t always so frightening. As the vets expressed:
“This little lady is very nervous of the world and has gone off to one of our amazing carers to recover from her surgery and also to learn that life doesn’t always have to be scary.”
Helping Candy regain her confidence required time, patience, and compassion. That’s where foster mom Wendy Penfold came in. She welcomed Candy with open arms and a gentle heart. Wendy recalled:
“When Candy came to me, she had lost her trust in humans and was very nervous.”
At first, Candy hid away at every sound, unsure if she was safe. But over time, Wendy’s kindness helped her blossom.
A cat climber gave Candy a place to play and feel secure, slowly revealing her playful and curious nature. Wendy shared:
“She would run and hide when I’d come into the room but by the end of her time with me, she became more inquisitive to know what I’m doing and staying in the same area as me.”
Wendy also introduced Candy to her other cat, Rita. The companionship proved to be exactly what Candy needed.
With Rita by her side, her confidence grew, and she began to trust more easily. No longer the frightened kitten curled up in the corner, Candy was finally ready for her next chapter.
The best news came when Candy found her forever family. A loving couple adopted her, promising to give her all the patience, comfort, and affection she deserved.
After everything she endured, Candy now has a home filled with safety and love.
