New York Foster Cat’s Moody Behavior Had Everyone Puzzled, Until The Truth Came Out
Emily Emby, a devoted cat mom to two fluffy Ragdoll cats named Nori and Saki, shares her New York City apartment with more than just her own pets.
Every so often, she opens her home to cats in need, offering them love and safety until they’re ready for forever families.

Emily cherishes every foster that comes her way, but one particular kitty left a mark on her heart. Her name was Maple Lee, a sweet, affectionate cat who arrived with a big surprise.
From the moment Emily met Maple, she was hooked. Maple was affectionate, clingy in the sweetest way, and purred endlessly whenever she was near Emily. As she recalled in an interview:
“She was the sweetest cat I had ever encountered.”

But Maple’s loving personality flipped whenever Nori and Saki came around. The gentle lap cat turned feisty, hissing and guarding her space fiercely.
Emily, confused by the sudden aggression, gave Maple her own safe area in the bathroom to help her settle in.

At the same time, she began noticing something else, Maple was putting on weight quickly, especially around her belly.
When Emily gently touched her stomach one day, she felt movement. Could Maple be pregnant?

Her suspicions were confirmed when Maple came to her one day, softly meowing as though to say, “Mom, it’s time.”
Emily quickly prepared a cozy space, and before long, Maple delivered four beautiful, healthy kittens.

Watching the birth was a powerful moment for Emily.
“The whole thing was such a miracle to watch! I couldn’t even believe that this was going on. Maple was literally hugging them. She was so happy to finally meet her children.”

Suddenly, Maple’s earlier hostility made sense, she had been protecting her unborn babies. Far from a grumpy foster, she was a devoted mother doing her best to keep her little family safe.
Emily was blown away by Maple’s maternal instincts. “Maple is one of the most maternal souls I have ever met in my life. She is so loving and so protective.”

Each kitten had their own distinct personality:
Ghost, the rambunctious one, full of energy and always looking for playtime.
Jalapeño, the social butterfly, bringing joy to everyone she met.
Habanero, Emily’s little charmer, who just wanted to sit beside you and make you feel special.
Szechuan, the cuddly “bookworm,” a gentle kitten with a thoughtful spirit.

Emily made sure Maple’s kittens all went to families she trusted, so she could visit them anytime. Saying goodbye was bittersweet, but she knew it was part of the foster journey.
What mattered most was that Maple and her kittens were safe, loved, and thriving.
Reflecting on the experience, Emily called it one of the most rewarding moments of her life: witnessing Maple transform from a frightened foster into a devoted mother surrounded by love.
