Colorado Man Rescues Ginger Kitten And Gains A Loyal Friend For Life

Life is full of surprises. Sometimes they come when we least expect them, changing the course of our days and even our lives. For Bryce Even of Berthoud, Colorado, one of those surprises came during an ordinary cleanup mission.
What started as a routine day turned into the beginning of an unforgettable friendship with a very special cat.

Bryce has spent more than a year traveling across the United States in his van, cleaning up natural areas and removing thousands of pounds of litter from parks, forests, and riversides.
His passion for keeping the outdoors beautiful has taken him through Colorado, Tennessee, Kentucky, Texas, Arizona, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
On one of those days, while working around an old double-decker bus, he heard cries that stopped him in his tracks.

The sound was unmistakable. Somewhere inside that abandoned bus were kittens calling for help. Bryce searched until he discovered three tiny orange kittens hidden away. Sadly, two of them did not survive.
One passed before he found them, and the second crossed the Rainbow Bridge the following day. That left just one small fighter clinging to life.

Bryce decided right then that he could not walk away. He named the surviving kitten Greg and vowed to give him the care he needed to survive.
Although Bryce had never pictured himself as a cat dad, he quickly realized he had been chosen. As he shared on TikTok:
“I didn’t want a cat. It wasn’t until I actually started feeding him each day, I felt like this was my baby and there was really nothing else but taking care of him. That was the priority.”

Caring for an orphaned kitten while living a busy, travel-filled lifestyle might sound nearly impossible, but Bryce proved otherwise. The so-called Cat Distribution System chose him, and he embraced the responsibility wholeheartedly.
He bottle-fed Greg, kept him warm, and made sure he had everything he needed to grow strong.
Day by day, Greg’s health improved. He gained weight, became playful, and soon revealed his bold personality. Bryce, always on the move, made sure to keep his new companion safe and comfortable in the van.

Once Greg was old enough, Bryce took him to the vet to be vaccinated and fixed, showing his commitment to being a responsible cat parent.
Over time, the little orange fluff transformed into a full-fledged travel buddy. Bryce shares videos of Greg on TikTok, where his antics have captured countless smiles. Bryce describes him as having “an attitude as big as Texas.”
He laughs about Greg’s mischievous ways, from chewing on blankets to launching playful attacks. With clear affection, he also calls him “Fuego Greggo, my spicy kitty.”
But behind the jokes is a genuine bond. Bryce sums it up in simple but heartfelt words:
“The joy is always having somebody to play with. There’s always somebody there.”

Any cat parent can relate to that feeling of companionship, knowing there is always a little friend by your side.
Now, as Bryce continues his mission to clean up the country, Greg rides shotgun. Together, they make quite the team: one man determined to make the environment better and one lively cat determined to make life more fun.
Their journey is more than just about travel and litter cleanup. It is about resilience, responsibility, and the unexpected ways life can bring joy.
Bryce’s story reminds us to adopt when possible and to take care of the environment we all share. In his own words, “Do for nature, and nature will do for you.” With Greg by his side, that message feels stronger than ever.
