Cyclists In Colombia Slam Brakes After Hearing Cries Echoing From The Woods

What began as a grueling three-day cycling trip through Colombia’s rugged terrain became something far more meaningful for Nicolás Pradilla and his trainer, Héctor Ramírez.
The pair were approaching the end of their journey when a last-minute decision to take a tougher trail led to an unexpected rescue, and a life-changing bond.

They had veered from their planned route to tackle a steep 25-mile uphill stretch. It was exhausting, but both were determined to push through. That’s when something unusual caught their attention. Nicolás recalled:
“Héctor heard some noises that sounded like birds. When we looked down, two abandoned puppies were there.”
Beneath thick brush, the tiny pups were dirty, shivering, and clearly left alone for some time. Despite the physical demands of their ride and the long journey ahead, the cyclists didn’t hesitate. In an interview, Nicolás said:
“We decided to take them with us immediately. Even though we still had quite a climb and more than 6 hours of travel ahead of us.”

Without any proper supplies to carry the pups, the men improvised. Héctor tucked one puppy against his chest, while Nicolás did the same with the other, keeping them warm and secure under their shirts.
Throughout the mountain ride, the little dogs stayed close to their rescuers’ hearts, calm and safe.

At first, the plan was simple: help the puppies and find them a home once the ride ended. But after six hours of carrying them, something changed. Nicolás shared:
“The initial idea was to help them and find them a home. After having them there for more than 6 hours, we decided to keep them ourselves.”
Héctor named his pup Remi, while Nicolás chose Tinto, after Colombia’s famous black coffee. The bond was immediate, and adopting them felt like the natural choice.

Once home, the puppies quickly adjusted, safe and loved in their new families. The rescue didn’t just change the dogs’ lives, it transformed their dads’ lives, too.
Nicolás was living with his parents at the time, who already had several dogs. Wanting to give Tinto his own space, he made a big decision: he moved out and found a place of his own. He explained:
“The whole process of looking for a home has been quite wonderful for me, too. Not only did he find a home, but I did, too.”

Months later, Remi and Tinto are thriving. Tinto is now fully recovered from a deworming treatment that had kept him from exploring during the first weeks.
With his health restored, Nicolás is already planning new rides, eager to relive the adventures of their unforgettable journey.
“The whole process of looking for a home has been quite wonderful for me, too. Not only did he find a home, but I did, too.”

These two cyclists and their two rescued puppies turned a challenging trail into a story of love, compassion, and new beginnings. What started as a detour became a lifelong bond for all four.

❤️🔥🫶 #perros #adoptar #ciclismo ♬ Married Life (From "Up") – Gina Luciani
