Desperate Cat Spends Days In Abandoned New York Building, Hoping For A Miracle
One day, a timid grey-and-white cat suddenly showed up inside a building in New York City. At first, the tenants assumed she had slipped out of someone’s apartment, but as the days went by, no one came to claim her.
She remained in the same corner, quietly waiting, as if still believing her owner might return. It soon became clear, though, that she had been left behind.
Everything took a turn when a kind neighbour noticed her and couldn’t walk away. Worried for her wellbeing, he reached out to Little Wanderers, a New York City rescue group devoted to helping stray and abandoned animals.
When the rescuers arrived, they carefully approached the scared kitty, gently picked her up, and brought her to safety. Little Wanderers shared:
“She was cold and hungry and tried to stay warm by huddling under the radiator in the corner. It didn’t really work. One of our volunteers happened to have a relative living there, so the cat was in luck. We’ve called her Fortune.”
At the rescue center, Fortune was given everything she needed, food, water, and a full medical checkup. As soon as she warmed up, Fortune started to show her true personality.
The shy little cat began to open up, transforming from a frightened feline into a loving purr machine.
Realizing that Fortune was friendly and didn’t need much socializing, the rescuers found her a foster family where she could feel safe and loved.
In her new home, Fortune quickly made herself comfortable. She rolled around on the warm floor and happily “made biscuits” by kneading the air with her paws. Her gentle purring filled the room, a sign of her growing trust and happiness.
When she wasn’t busy with these adorable antics, Fortune would ask for belly rubs, making up for all the affection she had missed in the past.
A vet examination revealed that Fortune was about two years old and had a microchip. Unfortunately, the microchip led to a disappointing end, no owner came forward.
Despite everything she had been through, Fortune won everyone over with her sweet and loving personality. She didn’t ask for much, just a warm, safe place to call home.
