In a quiet suburban town, a senior cat found himself in a heartbreaking situation. The poor soul sat in front of his owner’s townhouse, unnoticed as people passed him by.
For days, this big cat in a white and ginger coat, sat there as if he was waiting for someone.
One woman noticed him on her way to work. At first, she didn’t think much of it, but one morning when she didn’t see him moving, her heart skipped a beat.
She approached him and once he turned around, she sighed with relief. For a moment she thought the poor thing was gone forever.
Now that she came close to him, the woman noticed he was well cared for. The cat was well-fed, and he seemed overall healthy, unlike the other strays in the area.
The woman snapped a few pictures of him and sent them to their neighborhood Facebook chat, hoping to get more information about him. She went to work but soon got a reply that left her heartbroken.
It turned out that the cat’s owner was an elderly man who recently passed away. Once his family came to clear out the house, they left the cat behind.
No one cared enough to rehome the cat and they left him to fend for himself. Being an indoor cat his entire life, the poor thing waited in front of his late owner’s house.
Once the woman found out the soul-crushing truth, she made an instant decision to pick him up on her way home. What she didn’t know was that a challenge awaited her…
The first challenge was getting the cat into a carrier. Being a bit overweight, a regular-sized carrier was not big enough for him.
The woman called her husband and with his help, they managed to trap him and get him into the car. She named him Pom Pom and was excited to bring him to his new home.
However, she had no idea just how sad and angry Pom Pom was. They set up a cozy spot for him in the house, away from their other two cats.
To their surprise, Pom Pom started hissing and growling at them almost as if he was a feral cat.
She immediately reached out to their family vet, and he explained to them it was quite normal behavior considering what the poor soul went through.
It didn’t necessarily mean he was aggressive or feral, he was just confused, scared, and heartbroken. The vet advised them to take it slow and give him as much space as he needed.
This is exactly what his new parents did. Every day they would spend time with him, just sitting close to Pom Pom while offering him some treats.
Every time the woman tried to pet him, he would hiss at her. She was heartbroken by this, but she knew with time Pom Pom would come around.
And she was right! It took them almost two months for Pom Pom to accept his new home, but once he did he turned into a cuddle bug.
He liked being carried around like a baby, while gently purring and napping in their arms.
Although he still needed time to adjust to his other cat siblings, Pom Pom was tolerating them as long as they kept their distance.
I’m sure with time he will love his cat siblings as much as he loves his new home and parents! I’m so grateful for this kindhearted woman who decided to give Pom Pom a safe and warm home. Thanks to her, he will never have to worry about being abandoned again!
