Washington Cat Gets Adopted And Doesn’t Let His Blindness Stop Him From Living The Best Life

Say hello to Rudy, an extraordinary cat who has never had the gift of sight, yet carries himself with more independence than many others. As a tiny kitten, he lost his eyes to a serious infection that left no other option.

But don’t be quick to feel sorry for him – Rudy’s life is full of adventure and spirit.

His owner, Anda, recalls how this remarkable cat worked his way straight into their hearts and became part of their family.

A New Beginning

Rudy is easily one of the most remarkable cats you’ll ever hear about, and his story is nothing short of special.

He and his siblings were left behind when their mother abandoned them, and to make matters worse, they were battling severe nasal and eye infections.

Luckily, Forget Me Not Animal Shelter in Republic, Washington, stepped in and rescued the little ones before it was too late.

Because of the infections, all six kittens, Rudy included, had to undergo surgery to have their eyes removed. Quite a rough beginning, don’t you think?

However, this is where it gets awesome. Anda and her hubby stumbled upon Rudy at the shelter, and it was love at first sight – well, at least on their behalf.

They both got all teary-eyed when they met him and when the shelter worker handed Rudy over, he snuggled up to Anda like a little baby. Anda shared in a video:

“He rode with me, cuddled like a baby, for that five-hour trip.”

After a five-hour car ride, Rudy was as relaxed as could be, settling in like a true pro.

Once they arrived home, though, Anda and her husband were bundles of nerves, doing everything they could to make sure their new little guy felt safe and comfortable. She explains:

“We tried to keep him in smaller areas just to get him used to his surroundings, but we quickly realized he didn’t want to stay in there.”

But here’s the funny part – Rudy wanted nothing to do with being kept in a small space. This cat is all about adventure!

He darted off to explore, checking out every corner of his new home. Climbing, running, zooming around – it was as if he had memorized the layout from the start, like he carried a built-in map in his head.

Anda added:

“Now, just watching him on the stairs, you can tell he knows exactly how many stairs there are.”

Rudy quickly showed his playful side, turning into the ultimate trickster with the family dog and other cats.

He seems to know exactly where everything is – especially his treasured stash of treats – and he blended in perfectly with the rest of the household’s furry crew.

They have two other cats, a 17-year-old tabby and a smaller ginger kitty. Rudy didn’t have a problem adjusting to them, which is truly amazing.

His lack of sight? Not even a hurdle. Anda said:

“His hearing, his sense of smell are elevated because of his lack of sight.”

His super-hearing and smell make him the boss of the house!

Remarkable Rudy

Rudy’s hearing is so sharp that he can pick up on the slightest movement, always aware of where the other cats are.

Watching him stalk and pounce with such precision is incredible. In fact, he shows more independence and confidence than plenty of cats who can see perfectly well.

What’s really touching is how much he craves company. Unlike the other cats who do their own thing, Rudy’s a people person – well, a people cat! He’s all about cuddles, attention, and playtime. Anda said:

“He demands pets and attention. He likes to be able to hear a voice or some sort of sound of maybe a keyboard, to know where people are.”

He’s especially tight with Anda’s husband, greeting him with soft meows and head rubs after a long day at work. Anda sums it up perfectly:

“He opens your eyes to realizing that all creatures, regardless of their disabilities, deserve a home, a loving home, and have a lot to offer the world.”

Rudy reminds us that every animal, no matter what obstacles they face, deserves a safe and loving home.

Adopting a pet like Rudy might feel intimidating at first, and it’s completely normal to feel a little anxious about bringing a special needs animal into your life.

But the happiness and love they give in return make the journey more than worth it.
