I am genuinely amazed by cats on a daily basis, but I’m even more amazed by these particular cats! Also, I can’t believe how little I knew about some of them before I dug into the database of Guinness World Records.
My cats could only hold a record for the most unnecessary meows, or for eating too many treats.
No.1 Oldest Cat Ever
Creme Puff was born in 1967 and lived to be an amazing 38 years and three days old. She was a mixed tabby cat who lived in Texas with her owner Jake Perry. Can you imagine? A cat living this long? Amazing!
No.2 Oldest Living Cat
Flossie is 27 years old and the last record we have of her is in November 2022. There are no records of her passing, so she remains the oldest living cat at the moment.
No.3 Oldest Living Cat Siblings
These black and white cat siblings were born in 2000, and their combined age is 46. Their names are Zippo and Pika and they’re domestic shorthair cats who live with their human family in London, UK.
No.4 Longest Cat Whiskers
This beautiful cat, named Missi, holds the record for the world’s longest cat whiskers; they are 7.5 inches or 19 cm. I didn’t know this before. Truly incredible!
No.5 Longest Domestic Cat
The cat by the name Barivel is the longest cat ever, as is quite visible in the photo. The length of his body is 120 cm (3 ft 11.2 in). This gorgeous Maine Coon comes from Italy, and I believe that his fame gets him all the lasagna he wants!
No.6 Longest Surviving Janus Cat
The world’s longest surviving cat with Janus condition was named Frank and Louie. It lived in Massachusetts for 15 years and 87 days.
A Janus cat is an extremely rare genetic mutation that is caused by the overproduction of proteins while the kitten is still in the womb.
No.7 Fastest Domestic Cat Breed
Were you surprised? Well, we all know that the cheetah is the fastest cat, but when it comes to domestic cats, the Egyptian Mau holds the record.
It can attain a speed of up to 48 km/h and due to its muscular hind legs, it is also great at jumping and leaping huge distances.
No.8 Longest Tail In A Domestic Cat
The domestic cat with the longest tail is a Maine Coon named Cygnus Regulus Powers. Well, he certainly has a name worthy of a record holder! His tail is 44.66 cm long (17.58 in).
No.9 Cat With The Most Instagram Followers
Nala now has more than 4M followers on Instagram. She received her appreciation and a place in the Guinness book of world records, and she still holds the spot.
No.10 Cat With The Longest Fur
Sophie, the cat from California, holds the record for the longest fur on a cat with an amazing length of 25.68 cm (10.11 in). She is owned by Jami Smith and has held the record since 2013. Do you think another cat will claim her spot soon?
No.11 Smallest Cat Ever
Tinker Toy, how cute is this name? Tinker is the world’s smallest domestic cat which is only 7 cm (2.75 in) tall, and 19 cm (7.5 in) long. Tinker was owned by Scott and Katrina Forbes and lived in Illinois.
What’s even more amazing to me is that this cat has held the record since 1997!
Note: this record is only applicable to fully grown cats.
No.12 Cat With The Most YouTube Views
Sweet Maru! Maru is the cat that holds the Guinness record for most views on YouTube for an animal. This Scottish Fold from Japan has more than 300M views on YouTube and many followers on social media.
And there you have it! 12 cats that hold Guinness World Records. Were you surprised at any of them? I personally didn’t know a few of these.
I’ve never thought that a full-grown cat could be only 7 cm tall, or that a cat could live with such long fur as Sophie’s, but we learn something new every day.
