Joshua Hiebert and his partner Jose Tortolero are two landscape designers who love sharing their gardening knowledge on social media platforms.
They spend most of their time in their garden, creating beautiful landscapes. However, one normal day of gardening changed the course of their lives…
While Joshua was cleaning their driveway he noticed something unusual close to their garage door. It seemed like something was curled up on the concrete floor, so Joshua rushed to check it out.
What he saw broke his heart into a million pieces. A tiny ginger kitten, curled up as if he’s trying to hide from the cruel world.
Joshua searched for mama cat, but it seemed the tiny kitten was left all alone. They brought the tiny ginger furball inside their garage and that’s when they noticed just how bad his state was.
His eyes were severely infected, with crusty build-up all around. Joshua offered him some water and what the kitten did next broke their hearts.
The poor soul put his paw inside the bowl to determine the depth of the water! The eye infection had already taken a toll on his vision, and the couple knew he had to see a vet as soon as possible.
They fed the tiny fluffball and rushed him to the vet the next morning. The vet told them that he needed to see an ophthalmologist to determine if his vision could be saved.
They made an appointment and in the meantime, they made sure to nurse the kitten back to health.
Every morning they cleaned his infected eyes and made sure he had plenty of food. Just three days of love and attention turned the kitten into a little bundle of energy!
He started playing and jumping around, and with his new name, Whiskers, it seemed like he found his forever home!
Jose and Joshua were completely smitten by Whiskers, but sadly his eye infection kept getting worse.
The ophthalmologist prescribed Whiskers with a new round of antibiotics, but sadly one of his eyes was beyond saving.
They had to surgically remove his left eye and the right sadly completely lost vision. However, this didn’t stop Whiskers from being the happiest cat ever.
With his new dads and his amazing forever home, Whiskers was finally able to live his life as a happy and healthy cat!
Joshua and Jose shower him with love and are so grateful Whiskers chose their driveway as a place to hide. Thanks to this amazing couple, Whiskers got a second chance at life!
