Texas Pittie Spends 7 Years In Shelter Before Her Dream Finally Becomes Reality

Some animals have a way of capturing your heart instantly, and that’s exactly what happened to Joshua Kennon the moment he stepped into Haven Animal Care Shelter in Texas. 

The shelter buzzed with wagging tails and hopeful eyes, but one older pittie quietly stood out. Her name was Terri, and from the first glance, Joshua was completely captivated. 

Terri made her feelings clear right away, bounding up to him as if they had been friends for years. With her entire body wagging and showering him with kisses, she made it impossible for him not to smile.

Joshua recalled in an interview:

“She was jumping on me, giving me kisses and being the sweetest. So from day one, I was attached to her.”

At that moment, Joshua didn’t know Terri’s backstory. All he knew was that she was special. Later, he learned the truth, and it broke him a little inside.

Years earlier, Terri had been found wandering around a cemetery, pregnant and alone.

Rescuers brought her to the shelter, gave her the name “Terri” after the place she was found, and helped deliver her puppies. The babies found homes quickly, but Terri was left behind.

And then the years kept ticking by.

When Joshua met her, she had already been waiting five years for a family of her own.

It wasn’t because she lacked love to give. Terri was overflowing with affection. But her age, her need to be the only dog, and her black coat made her easy to overlook.

Puppies always stole the spotlight while Terri sat quietly in her kennel, her muzzle slowly frosting with gray.

Joshua saw her every day, and every day it tugged at his heart. Those soulful eyes told him everything, Terri wanted nothing more than to belong.

Two years later, life handed Joshua big news. He had been accepted into vet school at Texas A&M. It was an exciting step toward his dream career, but one thought kept nagging at him. What would happen to Terri?
