Passerby Hears Faint Cries From A Dumpster In California, Then Spots 4 Tiny Heads Peeking Out

It was early in the morning in California when the Cats of San Bernardino rescue got a call that quickly got them moving.

Around 6 AM, a friend of the rescue reached out with some worrying news: two tiny kittens had been seen wandering around a YMCA parking lot.

Not wanting to risk anything happening to them, the friend scooped the kittens up right away and called the local volunteer team for help.

The rescue’s dedicated volunteers headed straight to the YMCA to check things out.

They couldn’t shake the feeling that there might be more kittens hiding somewhere, or even a mama cat nearby.

As soon as the volunteers arrived, they started searching every corner of the area, hoping to spot any sign of more little ones or their mom.

The parking lot was still, with only the hum of early morning traffic in the background. But when they reached the far end, near a dumpster, a tiny cry broke the quiet:

“We started meowing for them. We heard tiny return meows from underneath a dumpster. We were greeted by two more tiny babies.”

They knew they had to move quickly because hungry kittens can’t wait long. The volunteer crouched down behind the dumpster, peering into the shadows and scanning for any hint of movement.

To her surprise, two more tiny kittens peeked out from the shadows, meowing softly in reply. They looked fragile, scared, and clearly in need of help.

She scooped them up, one at a time, and held them close to keep them calm. Meanwhile, the rest of the team combed the area, making sure no others were hiding nearby.

After a careful search, it seemed these four were the only ones there. Still, one question lingered: where was their mom?

It had already been more than four hours since anyone had last seen her, and the kittens’ empty bellies told them it had been far too long. The volunteer expressed her concern: 

“We hope nothing bad has happened to Mom. Our friend will be setting a trap for her over the next couple of days.”

If they find her, the plan is to have her spayed, and maybe even adopted if she’s friendly. For now, though, the four little ones are safe and warm, and that’s what matters most.

These little kittens will be making an appearance at the rescue’s upcoming adoption event. They’re still too young to go home just yet, but they’ll be available for pre-adoption.

That way, families can reserve them by paying the adoption fee, and once the kittens are old enough, spayed or neutered, and fully vetted, they’ll be ready to join their forever homes.

The volunteer and her team were so happy and relieved knowing the kittens were safe. But with stray cats, the story is rarely over that quickly. That’s why they still hope the mama cat will return.

In the meantime, they’re making sure the little ones have full bellies, warm beds, and all the care they need to grow strong and healthy.

This story is a perfect reminder of how important it is to call local rescues or shelters when you spot an animal in need. If it weren’t for that speaking up and the rescue’s quick action, these little ones might not have made it.
