Georgia Woman Rescued A Neglected Parrot To Be Her Best Friend, But He Chose A Different Favorite

When a woman rescued a neglected parrot named Buster, she thought she was gaining a feathered best friend. But six months later, Buster’s heart pulled him in a completely unexpected direction.

When a woman decided she wanted to add a parrot to her family, she began searching for the perfect feathered companion. She eventually answered an ad and was introduced to a bird named Buster.

It was immediately clear that Buster’s past had not been easy. He had been living in an environment where he was very much not cared for, and he desperately needed a fresh start.

She brought him home with a simple, loving intention: she wanted him to be her special bird. At first, it seemed like her dream of a close bond was coming true.

Buster settled into his new environment and began to show his sweet side. The foundation for a beautiful friendship seemed perfectly laid.

Mama’s Little Helper

In those early days, Buster and his new mom were practically inseparable. He was great with her, showing affection and a surprising willingness to be involved in her daily routines.

He even became her little household helper. When she was sweeping the floors, Buster would be right there, doing his best to assist in his own unique way.

Their bond was vocal, too. If she left the room, Buster would call out for her, hollering "Mama, mama" until she returned.

For the first half-year, everything went exactly as she had hoped. Buster was safe, loved, and deeply attached to the woman who had saved him.

An Unexpected Shift

But as time went on, the household dynamics began to change. About six months after Buster arrived, his mom noticed a distinct shift in his behavior.

His attention started drifting away from her and toward her husband, Ken. The subtle changes soon blossomed into a full-blown fascination.

While Ken was away at work, Buster would become restless. He started going to the front window, staring outside, and crying as he waited for Ken to return.

The bird who used to call for "Mama" was now entirely focused on when "Dad" would be walking through the front door.

Overcoming The Fear

For Ken, this sudden influx of avian affection was a little intimidating. He had not grown up with parrots and was admittedly cautious around his wife’s new pet.

"I was actually kind of afraid at first because I knew what they could do with their beak," Ken admitted.

To build trust safely, Ken started small. He would reach in and gently pet Buster through the bars of his cage.

Buster loved the attention, making happy sounds to let Ken know that the gentle scratches felt good. Slowly but surely, the physical barrier between them disappeared.

The Lockdown Bond

The turning point in their relationship came when the world slowed down. During the lockdown, Ken began working from home for a period of time.

With Ken in the house all day, Buster took full advantage of the situation. The bird slowly worked his way up from being petted in the cage to proudly perching on Ken’s shoulder.

The extra time together cemented their connection. Buster’s trust in Ken became absolute, and he refused to leave his side.

Ken’s initial fear of the bird’s beak had completely vanished, replaced by a deep, mutual affection.

Telling Dad A Story

Today, Buster’s daily routine revolves entirely around Ken. As soon as Ken walks into the room, Buster immediately tries to climb onto his shoulder.

Their evenings are filled with sweet, quiet moments. When it’s almost bedtime, Buster loves to lean in and "tell dad a story."

The little parrot will actually talk directly into Ken’s ear. He softly chatters, telling Ken that he’s a "good bird" and declaring, "I love you."

When Ken sits in his chair to watch TV, Buster climbs right into his lap. Safe and content, the rescued bird simply falls asleep.

A Feathery Shadow

Buster is not just an evening companion; he wants to be involved in everything Ken does. He is Ken’s tiny, feathered shadow.

The two of them share breakfast together every morning. If Ken is building or fixing something around the house, Buster is perched on his shoulder, "helping" in his own way.

However, Buster’s intense loyalty to Ken comes with a catch. He has become incredibly protective of his favorite person.

If his mom tries to sit down next to Ken while they are cuddling, Buster will quickly let her know she’s intruding by giving her a pinch or a bite.

A Beautiful Compromise

For the woman who rescued Buster, the situation is a mix of humor and slight heartbreak. "It is very challenging because I brought him home really to be my bird," she shared.

Buster still gives her a hard time, often trying to get in her business when she is cleaning or cooking. Despite the unexpected betrayal, she doesn’t hold it against him.

She sees how much joy the little bird brings to her husband’s life, and how safe Buster finally feels after his rough start.

"What I love the most about Buster is his bond with Ken," she smiled. Even though Buster chose a different favorite person, he finally found exactly where he belongs.
