A Routine Trip Takes A Turn
For Minnesota angler Erik Koffski, the day was supposed to be just another routine fishing trip.
He was preparing to head out on the water, expecting nothing more than a quiet afternoon on his paddleboard.
But just before he got started, a strange sound caught his attention.
He could hear a cat yowling somewhere offshore, breaking the peaceful silence of the lake.
A Desperate Swimmer
At first, Erik assumed the noise was simply a neighborhood pet.
He figured someone had accidentally left their cat outside for the night, and it was just vocalizing from the shoreline.
Suddenly, the situation changed from a distant noise to a very close encounter.
A tiny feline had jumped into the water, swimming away from the shore and heading straight toward his board.

Erik quickly scooped the soaking wet animal out of the water.

Time To Head Home
When the fishing trip finally came to an end, Erik began loading up his gear.
The loyal feline stayed right by his side, never wandering more than a foot away from his new friend.
Not wanting to leave the sweet animal behind, Erik asked the cat if he wanted to get into his Jeep.
Without hesitation, the little cat hopped right inside, ready for whatever adventure came next.
A Picture Perfect Surprise
Before making the drive home, Erik sent a photo to his family to show them what had happened.
The picture showed a little, slightly mangy kitten sitting proudly on his paddleboard.
His family was instantly smitten with the unexpected catch of the day.
In fact, before Erik even pulled into the driveway, his son had already picked out the perfect name: Fisher.
Settling Into A New Life
When Fisher arrived at his new home, the family took things slow to make sure he was comfortable.
They pulled the cars out of the garage, giving the sweet, affectionate boy free rein of the space.
Once they made sure he was completely clear of fleas, Fisher got a much-needed bath.
Clean and safe, he was finally brought inside the house to integrate with the rest of the family.
The Catch Of A Lifetime
Looking back, Erik’s family believes there were bigger things at play that day on the water.
They feel Fisher was always meant to find Erik and become part of their lives.
As one family member perfectly summed it up: "We didn’t want a cat, but we want him."
