When Kim Russell visited a local shelter one day, she didn’t expect to meet a cat as unique as Minnie. This wasn’t just any ordinary rescue cat; she stood out among the other animals in a big, big way.
Minnie was a massive, 27-pound feline in desperate need of a forever home. When Kim first laid eyes on the round, fluffy cat, she couldn’t believe her size.
She immediately felt worried for this sweet cat’s health but also couldn’t help but feel a lot of love for her.
Minnie’s large body, along with her gentle and friendly nature, left a strong impression on Kim. As a regular visitor at the shelter and a rescuer herself, Kim couldn’t resist the urge to get involved.
Kim spent some time cuddling Minnie, and within minutes, the cat started making those adorable biscuits with her paws, as Kim shared in an interview:
“Minnie was friendly right away and is a very sweet girl. I just wanted to squeeze her immediately as I couldn’t believe her size. She made some biscuits and enjoyed the attention I gave her.”
Kim knew that Minnie needed more than just a place to stay; she needed a family committed to guiding her toward health. So she made a short video and posted it on TikTok, pleading with her followers to help this lovable giant find a home.
It didn’t take long for the video to blow up. Minnie’s story touched thousands of hearts, and in just a few days her video went viral, collecting over 1 million views and nearly 120,000 likes.
People were immediately drawn to her adorable face and overwhelming size. Some even joked, calling her “Minnie-Van” due to her substantial figure.
But despite the playful comments, there was an underlying concern for Minnie’s health and well-being. Many viewers were rooting for her to find a loving home that could support her through the tough road ahead.
Minnie’s journey hasn’t been easy. She was found as a stray a few months ago. It’s unclear how long she was out there or what she ate, but her weight likely came from a poor diet and overfeeding.
The shelter team put Minnie on a special diet and exercise plan to help her lose weight, but it’s a slow process for a cat her size. They hope she’ll be adopted by someone willing to continue her weight loss journey.
The staff described Minnie as a sweet and affectionate cat who loves to be around people. But her size limits her mobility, as Kim explained:
“Due to her size, Minnie is unable to move as freely as a typical cat. She is only able to jump up on low surfaces and wouldn’t be able to run fast or far. She is unable to groom herself and does require daily grooming.”
Minnie needs a calm, quiet home environment. The ideal family for her would be one without young kids, and with someone who would commit to helping her lead a healthier life, as Kim shared:
“An adopter can help Minnie lose weight by making sure she’s as active as she can be, feeding her special metabolic diet, and working with their veterinarian to monitor her progress and make changes as needed.”
Kim, who recently started her own rescue facility, hopes her viral video will encourage more people to consider adopting shelter cats like Minnie. Her ultimate wish is for Minnie to find a home where she can be healthy and happy.
For now, Minnie patiently waits at the shelter, hoping to meet someone special who will change her life. I believe it’s only a matter of time before she finds a family that loves her as she is and helps her become her best self.
