Ohio Post Staff Shocked After Finding A Tiny Kitten Shoved Through Mail Slot
Brad Adams had witnessed plenty of unusual rescues during his years of helping animals in need. But nothing could have prepared him for what happened one Saturday in Clarksburg, Ohio.
That morning, a call came in to the Fayette Regional Humane Society, where Brad works. On the other end was a sheriff’s deputy, sounding both concerned and baffled.
Postal workers at the local post office had just discovered something no one expected to find in a mail slot: a tiny kitten, allegedly pushed through as if she were just another piece of mail.
Unsure what to do, the postal staff contacted authorities, setting in motion a rescue unlike anything Brad had experienced before.
Brad, always ready to step in when an animal was in trouble, wasted no time getting to the scene. The whole drive there, his mind kept drifting to the terrified kitten, what she must have felt, trapped and confused in such a strange place.
When he finally pulled up, he was greeted by the worried faces of the postal workers. They had been keeping a close eye on the little furball, doing their best to comfort her until help arrived. Brad shared:
“I’m sure it was a bit of a shock to hear meowing coming from the mailbox. I’ve seen kittens stuck in many places, but this was new for me!”
Thankfully, the kitten was unharmed, though his wide eyes showed just how scared he’d been. At the shelter, the staff welcomed him with open arms and warm smiles, giving him the perfect name: Special Delivery.
They made sure he had everything he needed: good food, a cozy bed, and more love than he could possibly imagine.
The shelter reflected on how quickly he had gone from a dark, cramped mailbox to a safe haven, sharing in a Facebook post:
“Special Delivery is about 10 weeks old. Despite the unusual circumstances of his rescue, he is enjoying his status as the center of attention and has stolen the hearts of the staff.”
True to his name, Special Delivery began showing just how sweet he was. He meowed for attention, pressed into every hand that reached for him, and happily curled up in warm arms. Brad shared:
“We can only imagine how scared he must have been, trapped alone in that dark mailbox. But Special Delivery has a bright future ahead. He already meows for attention and wants to be picked up and cuddled by everyone who passes by.”
The Humane Society shared Special Delivery’s story on Facebook, and it didn’t take long for it to touch hearts far and wide.
They announced that he’d soon be ready for adoption and expressed their hopes that someone kind and loving would step forward to give him the forever home he truly deserved.
It’s hard to imagine how anyone could push a tiny kitten through a mail slot. But now, thanks to the shelter’s care, Special Delivery’s days of neglect and danger are behind him, and his future is bright.
