Kayla, a proud dog mom from North Carolina, decided one day to bring home an adorable new furry member to her family – a tiny kitten named Boots.
However, she never expected that this little furball would be a huge shock for her giant German shepherd, Butter.
Unbelievable, right? You’d think an 85-pound dog would be the confident one in this scenario, but that was definitely not the case here.
Because sweet Butter had a completely different reaction to her pint-sized roommate.
When Kayla introduced Butter to her new kitten sibling, she didn’t exactly embrace the idea of sharing her North Carolina home with a one-pound fluffball.
Instead, the dog was visibly terrified! The sight of the kitten – small enough to fit in the palm of your hand – had Butter acting like the world’s biggest scaredy-cat.
Kayla captured the hilarious moment on video, showing Butter’s cautious stare at Boots, who seemed totally unaware of her intimidating presence.
As the kitten explored her new surroundings, Butter, instead of investigating, crept closer to his owner.
The huge dog actually ended up hiding her face under her owner’s arm, like a kid seeking comfort from a monster under the bed! What a giant sweetie, right?
It’s hard to believe that something so small could leave a dog like Butter trembling like that.
It reminded me of another German shepherd who reacted similarly upon meeting a kitten for the first time. It seems like big dogs have the quirkiest reactions to tiny surprises!
Summing up Butter’s unexpected reaction, Kayla wrote in the caption of her TikTok video:

The clip quickly went viral on TikTok, and viewers wanted to know – did Butter ever warm up to Boots? Could they possibly become the best of friends, despite the rocky start?
In an update video, Kayla shared that while Butter and Boots weren’t exactly snuggling together just yet, some progress was being made, as she explained:
“One day later, and they still aren’t besties. But I think it’s progress.”

Now, it looks like Butter is slowly warming up to Boots. In a recent picture, you can see them eating from the same bowl, which I believe is a fantastic sign of their growing bond.
So, while Butter and Boots might not be best pals at this point, it seems they’re gradually learning to adjust to life as a team.
Every interaction brings them closer to understanding each other, and Butter is starting to see that her roommate isn’t a threat after all.

After all, it’s not every day that a big German shepherd has to figure out how to live with a tiny kitten under the same roof.
