Spencer, from Corpus Christi, Texas, is the face behind SB Mowing, a free lawn care service that has touched many lives.

One day, while out on the job, he came across a cat in distress and chose to step in.

That single act of kindness set off a series of events that would grow into something far bigger, creating life-changing opportunities for many in need.

So, let’s jump right into this incredible story!

As Spencer worked to tidy up an overgrown yard, he suddenly spotted a badly injured cat who was clearly in urgent need of help. He described this fateful encounter in a video:

“I accidentally found this yard while heading to another job. It must have been fate because there were things that happened that I’ve never come across before.”

This poor thing suffered from an infected abscess and was unable to move, as Spencer explained:

“He seemed like he was ready to lay there until he passed away from infection.”

Seeing the helpless cat broke Spencer’s heart, and he knew he couldn’t just walk away.

He tried to get help right away, but it wasn’t easy – everywhere he turned, no one seemed willing to take in the injured kitty.

Fortunately, Spencer’s determination led him to Edgar and Ivy’s Cat Sanctuary, a place dedicated to caring for abused and injured cats.

Although the sanctuary itself was struggling financially and close to shutting down, they couldn’t ignore the cat’s plight.

They welcomed him in and made sure he received the medical treatment he so urgently needed.

Thankful for the sanctuary’s quick response, Spencer felt moved to do more.

He started a GoFundMe campaign, hoping to gather support to cover the cat’s medical costs and to help sustain the sanctuary so they could continue rescuing other cats in need.

Anissa Beal, the sanctuary’s director, recounted their conversation, sharing:

“He said, ‘Maybe I can get you $10,000 or something.’ And I said, ‘That would be life-changing.’”

What happened next was truly extraordinary. Spencer’s heartfelt appeal reached people everywhere, and the response was beyond anything he imagined.

Support came flooding in, not just in the form of donations but also with supplies sent straight to the sanctuary.

Within just a few days, contributions soared past the original goal, raising more than $187,000 to keep the sanctuary going strong.

For Beal and her team, Spencer’s chance encounter became a life-changing moment that reshaped their financial future.

With the incredible support they received, the sanctuary was able to grow its facilities and services, opening the door to help even more cats in need.

Beal was overwhelmed with emotion, sharing:

“It was a miracle, and it makes me emotional to think that so many people could care about us and about this cat and what we’re doing. I’m afraid I’m going to wake up and that it’s not true. This is beyond anything I could have ever imagined.”

Spencer’s kindness ended up doing far more than rescuing one injured cat – it gave Edgar and Ivy’s Cat Sanctuary the stability to continue saving countless others.

In gratitude, Beal offered to name a new building after him, but Spencer chose instead to dedicate it to the community whose generosity made it all possible.

Today, the SB Mowing Community Wellness Center stands as a powerful reminder of what compassion and unity can achieve.

It symbolizes the strength of collective kindness and the extraordinary change it can bring.
