Picture having a pet so fluffy that it could practically clean your floors! That’s the life of Lauren and Will Powers, who are the proud owners of Cygnus, a Maine Coon cat famous for having the longest tail in the world.
His full name is Cygnus Regulus Powers, and he earned a spot in the Guinness World Records in 2018 for his incredible tail, which measured an astonishing 17.58 inches from the base to the tip.
But that’s not all! Will mentioned in an interview that Cygnus’ tail has kept growing since then, making it even longer than the record:
“It’s well over the world record currently of 16.3 and showing no indications of stopping. The tail expands by about half an inch every month or so. It’s starting to look nearly strange on him. People call him ‘featherduster’ or ‘Door draft blocker’ as the thing is so long and fluffy.”
Having a cat with such a lengthy tail can be tricky. Will and Lauren have to be super careful when shutting doors, as Cygnus’ tail can easily get stuck.
And who could forget the time he accidentally dipped his tail in a bowl of water? Even with these little mishaps, Cygnus is a cherished part of the family. His tail is amazing to see, and his fun-loving nature makes him a delight to have around.
Plus, he has a brother named Arcturus, who also holds a Guinness World Record for being the tallest domestic cat. Talk about the family of winners! The two brothers are inseparable and love to play and snuggle together.
Cygnus’ tail has become a viral sensation, attracting visitors from all over who want to see him. Some even ask to pet his tail, which can be a bit tricky because of its length and fluffiness.
But no matter how long his tail grows, Cygnus will always be a treasured member of the Powers family. He’s a truly special cat with an extraordinary tail!
So, if you’re considering a special and adorable pet, a Maine Coon could be the perfect choice. Just be prepared for some tail-wagging excitement! Or maybe even some record-breaking moments?
