Elliot and Nathanial had long dreamed about adopting a Siamese kitten. One day, they finally set off to the Lynchburg Humane Society in Virginia, excited about a special event called Free Cat Friday.
As Eliot and Nathanial imagined bringing home a sweet Siamese, their hearts were full of hope. But fate had something else in store.
As soon as they arrived, they were disappointed to learn that all the Siamese kittens were either reserved or already adopted. Feeling discouraged, they had almost left, but something told them to keep looking.
That’s when they stumbled upon Merlin, a tiny, blind cat. He wasn’t the Siamese they had in mind, but there was something undeniably special about him.
Though he was blind and much smaller than the other cats, that only made their hearts soften even more. Merlin had arrived at the shelter as a baby, patiently waiting for someone to truly see him for who he was.
It felt like a moment meant to be. His story pulled them in, and they couldn’t help but feel an instant connection.
This kitty had been through so much already in his short life, yet there he was, waiting for love. Before they even realized it, Eliot and Nathanial had fallen in love with the little guy. There was no doubt in their minds – Merlin was the one.
As they brought him home, Merlin quickly showed them that his blindness didn’t slow him down one bit. He had such an adventurous spirit, as Elliot shared in an interview:
“He’s an affectionate cat that loves being acknowledged and held. He’s never destructive or petty, either. Because he was born blind, he really has no concept of fear. He doesn’t hide or avoid people.”
Bringing Merlin into their lives has brought Eliot and Nathanial more joy than they could’ve ever imagined. His playful, fearless nature has made them laugh and smile every day.
Their bond grows deeper with every passing day. It isn’t just that they’ve adopted a cat; it feels like Merlin had chosen them. He waited for them at the shelter, and they were the ones who finally saw the incredible soul behind his blindness.
Merlin may not be able to see, but he’s full of life. His favorite place is on someone’s lap, soaking up the warmth and love he missed out on before finding his forever family, as Eliot added:
“He’ll run up to the door to meet us and climb all over guests sitting on the couch. And his preferred place is on someone’s lap.”
Their hearts swell with love every time they look at him, knowing they are giving him the loving home he waited for. And in return, Merlin gives them more than they could have ever imagined – an endless well of love, comfort, and joy.
It’s as if Merlin knew from the moment they met that this was his home, and Elliot and Nathanial couldn’t agree more.
It’s funny how sometimes, life doesn’t give you what you expect. Instead, it gives you exactly what you need.
Merlin has shown Eliot and Nathanial that sometimes, the perfect match finds you. And they couldn’t feel luckier to have found him, their little blind adventurer who has made their home complete.
