They Found This Mississippi Horse Collapsed And Waiting To Give Up, Then Came The Surprise
When rescuers found him, he had already decided to give up. But the moment he realized he was safe, this resilient horse found an incredible will to live.
A Heartbreaking Discovery

When rescuers first arrived, the situation looked grim. The horse was in a miserable state, having been denied food and water for far too long.
He had lost a tremendous amount of weight and was severely dehydrated. His spirit seemed completely broken by the neglect he had endured.
His rescuer believed he had simply decided to lay down and wait for the end. He had given up on life, and getting him to safety was going to be an enormous challenge.
A Miraculous Effort

Getting a horse up when they are already down takes a massive amount of effort. The rescuer worried about how they would manage to move him.
But then, something incredible happened. Miraculously, the weakened animal found the strength to get to his feet.
He only had to walk about 30 feet to reach the waiting trailer. However, that short distance took every ounce of energy he had left.
Collapsing From Exhaustion

He stood on his feet just long enough to fall onto the trailer. He was so weak that he simply collapsed the moment he was loaded.
His rescuer watched in shock as he fell into a position she had never seen a horse physically do before. His legs spread out, similar to how a dog "sploots" on the floor.
It was an awful sight, highlighting just how fragile his condition truly was. But he was finally safe, and his rescuer offered gentle words of comfort.
Arriving At The Foster Home

Fortunately, the foster home was only a 15-minute drive away. When they arrived, the team had to carefully drag him off the trailer because he couldn’t walk.
They urged him to just rest for a minute. Even though he was down, a shift was happening in his mind.
He seemed to realize that he was going to a better place. For the first time in a long while, he knew he could make it.
A Glimmer Of Hope

Once settled, he lay down but began eating the hay provided to him. It was a small but vital sign of life.
When horses are down for more than a day or two, it is notoriously difficult for them to recover. The team knew the next few hours would be critical.
They cheered him on, hoping his newfound will to live would pull him through the night.
A Shocking Morning Surprise

The next morning, his rescuer went to check on him, bracing for the worst. Instead, she was absolutely shocked by what she found.
He wasn’t just standing; he was up and alert. Usually, getting a horse in his condition back on their feet is a long, grueling process.
He was even pawing at the ground, as if to say, "Hurry up and feed me!" He was bright-eyed and ready for breakfast.
Managing His Recovery

Despite his eagerness, his caretakers had to be incredibly careful. When a horse is that skinny, giving them too much grain too quickly can be dangerous.
His rescuer brought him water and a small amount of food, apologizing that she couldn’t offer more. She hated restricting his meals, knowing how hungry he was.
"Bless his heart, he wants some more food," she noted. But she knew that slow and steady was the only way to save him.
An Amazing Will To Live

She had not expected him to be so strong, especially considering how close to death he had been the night before. His turnaround was nothing short of astounding.
Once he was given a little bit of hope, his amazing will to live kicked in. He had been severely dehydrated from going so long without water, but his spirit was now fighting back.
For seven days, they had to help lift him to stand. But after that initial week, his progress was unstoppable.
A Beautiful Future For Dasher

The horse, now named Dasher, proved he had a strong will and a resilient heart. He was soon outwalking his caretakers, feeling pretty good about his new life.
Seeing him pull himself through such a dark time brought tears to his rescuer’s eyes. In his late teens, Dasher still has a lot of good years ahead of him.
For his rescuers, there is nothing more rewarding than watching a horse like Dasher transform from near death into the strong, beautiful animal he was always meant to be.
