Texas Driver Pulls Over To Check On A Motionless Kitten On The Road, Fearing The Worst

When Donald and Aggie Cooper set out on a long drive from Texas to Pennsylvania, they never expected to find anything unusual along the roadside.

But then, something caught their attention: two motionless animals lying on the side of the road. At first, they feared the worst, thinking the pair, a cat and a tiny kitten, might be gone for good.

Still, they couldn’t just drive past. As they approached, the unexpected happened: the animals stirred. They were alive, though weak and in desperate need of help.

Donald and Aggie Cooper are seasoned rescuers with Unleash the Paws rescue organization in Texas. So, they just couldn’t drive past an animal in need.

Donald pulled over, and Aggie quickly got out to check on the tiny, motionless kitten, as she shared in an interview:

“I had to get out to check on the kitten because it was too dangerous for him. The cars were passing our van so close and fast, it was shaking the whole van.”

As she cautiously approached, she found the kitten’s mother lying nearby, showing no signs of life. Heartbroken, she feared the kitten had met the same fate.

But just as she was about to give up, she saw the kitten moving. She recalled:

“I touched the kitten to see if he was alive. When I did, I saw his little paw move, and that’s when I picked him up.”

Aggie scooped him up and carried him to their van. He was so young, his eyes were barely open, a fragile little life clinging to his first days.

They decided to name him Mile Marker 14, Interstate 70 East, Ohio, after the exact spot where they’d found him, but quickly shortened it to the much cozier “Miles.”

Now came the tricky part: figuring out how to care for such a tiny kitten while on a weeks-long trip, all while sharing the van with six dogs who had never met a cat before.

Luckily, things went far smoother than they imagined. The dogs were over the moon to meet their tiny new buddy, and before long, they were all curled up together like they’d known each other forever. Aggie explained:

“They quickly learned to accept him and realized he was one of the pack. Now, the kitten thinks he is a dog and has no fear of them. He plays with our foster dogs, who adore him and shower him with affection.”

Miles turned out to be one lucky little kitten, and Aggie shared his story on TikTok to raise awareness about stopping to check on animals in need, as she shared:

“Now, I realize how important it is to check every animal on the side of the road. If we hadn’t turned around and stopped, I don’t think the kitten would have made it.”

After such a rocky start, Miles is full of energy, affection, and curiosity. He’s now ready for the next chapter of his life: finding a forever home.

He’d make the perfect addition to a dog-loving family who’s ready to give him the safe, happy life he deserves.
