After years of severe neglect, this calico kitty arrived at the Animal Rescue League Shelter and Wildlife Center in Pennsylvania.
However, the moment she arrived, the entire shelter was left in shock. The condition in which the cat had arrived was simply unbelievable. Fortunately, she was in the right hands.
The cat was brought to the shelter after her elderly owner was taken to a nursing home due to Alzheimer’s.
Upon her arrival, she was extremely shy, so she kept hiding from everyone around her. That was when the shelter staff came up with a perfect name for her – Hidey.
Sadly, it was no surprise why she behaved like that. The poor cat suffered years of neglect, which could be seen both from her behavior and appearance.
Hidey had severely matted fur with filthy dreadlocks that resembled an octopus. Some of the dreadlocks were even 8 inches long, containing a mixture of feces and hair tangled up together.
Fortunately, the shelter staff had a solution. They decided to shave everything off, but first, they had to sedate Hidey to make their mission easier. It took them hours to cut through all the dreadlocks and shave off the matted fur.
Once the medical team removed the pounds of matted fur from Hidey’s body, she became a completely different cat. She could walk normally again, and she instantly began feeling much better.
After getting rid of the matted fur and receiving the necessary treatments, Hidey found a loving home, where she would have enough time and support to adjust to her new life.
Hopefully, she will warm up to her family and enjoy a happy and healthy life, just as she always deserved.
