Neglected Dog Found Tied To A Fire Hydrant In Detroit Finally Gets The Love He Deserves
In a quiet Detroit neighbourhood, a woman spotted a frail dog sitting all alone beside a fire hydrant.
As she approached, her heart broke , the poor pup was tied up, his ribs showing and his thin body covered in scrapes. He looked like he had completely given up.
Thankfully, help arrived just in time. A volunteer from Make a Difference Rescue came to collect the dog, whose gentle eyes showed more sadness than fear. As Judie said in an interview:
“He was so infested with fleas, it was beyond. His ribs were showing.”
Many dogs in situations like this are terrified when rescuers approach, unsure whether the humans in front of them mean harm or kindness. But this dog seemed to sense that someone finally cared. She also shared:
“He allowed us to untie him. He allowed us to put him right in the car … He was very thankful to be rescued.”
No one knew exactly how long he had been left there without food or water, but it was clear he wouldn’t have lasted much longer.
The rescue team took him straight to the vet for an exam, a much-needed bath, and treatment for his flea infestation and skin infections. Despite everything he had endured, the dog, now named Buddy, remained calm and loving through it all.
“He’s about as sweet as sugar. His personality is pretty stable for what he’s gone through.”
After learning more about Buddy’s past, rescuers discovered that his previous owners had given him away for free.
Sadly, whoever took him in had abandoned him shortly afterward, leaving him tied up and helpless.
It’s a story Judie has heard too many times before. Still, every time she rescues a dog, she makes it her mission to give them comfort and joy right from the start.
Now that Buddy’s received the care he needed, his true personality has started to shine. He adores cuddles, loves sticking his head out the car window, and greets everyone he meets with a wagging tail. Judie also explained:
“I don’t see any aggression in him. He is just so cuddly and wonderful.”
This sweet boy’s transformation is nothing short of remarkable. After being left behind, Buddy is finally safe, loved, and ready for his next chapter.
Buddy’s story touched so many hearts that it soon caught the attention of local media. The once-forgotten dog made his television debut on a Detroit news segment, where viewers got to see his bright eyes, wagging tail, and gentle nature for themselves.
Sitting beside his rescuers, Buddy looked calm and proud, as if he knew he’d finally made it to safety.
The rescue hoped that sharing his story on TV would inspire more people to adopt, volunteer, or simply show compassion to animals in need, and judging by the response, Buddy became a true hometown hero.
