Nevada Kitten Found Frozen Solid Defies The Odds With One Tiny Breakthrough
When a woman walking her dog stumbled upon a litter of frozen kittens in a shrub, their chances looked incredibly bleak. But thanks to a dedicated foster mom and countless parking lot bottle feedings, the smallest kitten, Bagel, fought her way back to health.
A Chilling Discovery
It started as a routine walk for a local woman and her dog, but it quickly turned into a life-or-death rescue mission.
Tucked away in the freezing shrubs, a litter of tiny kittens had been abandoned to the elements. The helpless babies were completely exposed to the bitter cold.
By the time they were discovered, the kittens were dangerously still. As their rescuer would later recall, they were quite literally frozen solid.
With no time to lose, the tiny felines were rushed to a foster carer who immediately jumped into action to save their fading lives.
A Desperate Drive
The foster mom lived about 45 minutes away from where the kittens were found.
Knowing the babies wouldn’t survive the long drive without immediate intervention, she had to get creative in the parking lot.
She held the freezing kittens right up to the heating vents in her car, blasting the warm air to slowly thaw their fragile little bodies.
Every minute of that drive was a race against the clock to bring their body temperatures up to a safe level.
The Smallest Of The Bunch
Once they finally made it home, the rescuer set up a special bin equipped with a safe heating source.
The warmth was exactly what the litter needed to start moving again, but one kitten remained in a highly critical state.
Bagel was the smallest of the group, and her tiny body had taken the brunt of the freezing temperatures.
While her siblings began to stabilize, Bagel’s fight for survival was only just beginning.
Refusing To Give Up
Despite being warm and safe, Bagel simply didn’t want to eat.
Her weight was drastically dropping, and her foster mom grew terrified that the tiny kitten wouldn’t make it through the week.
"I thought, ‘I can’t. She has to live. She has to live,’" her foster mom recalled.
Determined to pull Bagel through, she committed to a grueling, around-the-clock feeding schedule.
Parking Lot Pit Stops
Because the fragile kittens needed to be fed every four hours, they became their foster mom’s constant companions.
They went absolutely everywhere with her. If she had to run errands, the kittens were packed up and brought along.
Whenever the four-hour mark hit, she would pull her car over into whatever parking lot was nearby.
There, she would patiently try to coax little Bagel into taking the vital nutrients she so desperately needed.
A Miraculous Milestone
Then, one magical day, everything changed for the tiny fighter.
During a feeding attempt, Bagel finally latched onto the bottle and began drinking all on her own.
Her foster mom was absolutely overjoyed. "I was so excited. And I said, ‘She’s eating! She’s eating! She’s eating on her own!’"
That single, successful latch was the turning point that proved Bagel was finally going to be okay.
A Messy, Happy Eater
Today, Bagel has graduated from the bottle and proudly eats wet food all by herself.
She makes quite a mess during meal times, getting the food all over her little face and paws.
But her foster mom just laughs it off. After coming so close to losing her, she doesn’t care about the mess at all, as long as Bagel is eating.
With a full belly, Bagel’s true personality finally began to shine through.
The Determined Little Admirer
As Bagel grew stronger, she became incredibly attached to the woman who saved her life.
The kittens started following her everywhere around the house, but Bagel was especially determined to stay close.
When a baby gate was put up to keep them in a safe area, the tiny kitten simply climbed right over it to get to the other side.
"I do have a little admirer, don’t I?" her foster mom joked as Bagel demanded her attention.
A Bittersweet Goodbye
Eventually, the day came for the thriving kittens to find their forever families.
Spud and Pancake were both adopted by loving homes in California, while Bagel found her perfect match with a new family in Pennsylvania.
Saying goodbye to Bagel was incredibly difficult, but her foster mom knew it was the right thing to do.
"My heart may break just a little bit so that theirs will never have to break again," she shared, knowing that letting Bagel go simply opened up her home to save the next tiny life in need.
