Plumber Gets A Call About A Cat Stuck Deep In A Vent, Minutes Later He Saves 3 Lives

Ashley DaSilva was used to getting unexpected calls. It came with running an animal rescue. But this one hit differently.

Just an hour after DaSilva had dropped off a pregnant rescue cat at a foster home, her phone rang. The voice on the other end was frantic. Something had gone terribly wrong.

The cat had vanished.

Ashley’s heart jumped. She had just placed this kitty in a safe home where she could finally rest and prepare to have her kittens.

But not even sixty minutes had passed when the cat somehow managed to pry open the lid of a floor vent. And just like that, she slipped right through the vent and disappeared inside.

From the third floor.

She had fallen all the way down through the narrow metal ductwork, landing somewhere deep in the basement walls.

No one could see her. No one could reach her. The only signs she’d left behind were the faintest sounds of movement, and then silence.

DaSilva grabbed her keys and rushed over, sharing in an interview:

“I raced all the way there as fast as I could, called everybody possible that I could, animal services, wildlife, you know, anyone possible and they basically said that they couldn’t help us.”

The cat was trapped in a place no human hand could reach, and time was running out. The thought of her stuck in the dark, maybe injured, or worse, going into labor, was just too much.

DaSilva had to think fast. She needed someone who could see inside the walls, someone with the tools and know-how to reach what others couldn’t.

That’s when she turned to someone she never thought she’d need in this kind of emergency: a plumber.

It sounded strange, even to her, but it was the only idea left. And it turned out to be exactly the right one.

Adam Gordon, from the Morella Group, picked up the call. He listened carefully, and without hesitation, told her he and his plumbing team were on their way.

Once inside the house, Gordon brought out a sewer camera and started exploring the vents. It wasn’t long before the camera picked up a heartbreaking sight.

The cat’s hind legs were jammed in a narrow section of ductwork. She was overheating and barely breathing.

Around her were jagged screws and sharp edges that could’ve easily injured her if she even tried to struggle.

Gordon knew it was serious. He carefully opened up the wall and started dismantling the duct piece by piece.

Every movement had to be gentle as the cat was in bad shape, and there was no room for mistakes. But finally, after what felt like forever, they managed to pull her out.

She wasn’t moving much. DaSilva scooped her up and cradled her in her arms, and the kitty finally relaxed. DaSilva shared:

“When I brought her close to me I felt her take a breath and it just… The emotions overcame me because I was so relieved.”

Despite everything she’d just been through: the fall, the fear, the heat, the cat made it out without a single scratch. It was truly a miracle.

Then, just a few hours later, two tiny, healthy kittens joined the world. It was the start of a brand-new chapter, a new beginning for all three of them.

That plumber didn’t just save one life. He saved three. His quick thinking, steady hands, and willingness to help when no one else could made all the difference.

In his honor, they named the brave mama cat Plum.

And now, thanks to a whole lot of heart, a sewer camera, and one very determined team, this little family got the second chance they deserved.
