I had a good laugh the other day when I stumbled upon a photo of Pompous Albert. I couldn’t decide what was more hilarious – his face or his name.
Eager to spread this joy, I decided to share the story of this unique cat with you today. So, without further ado, meet Pompous Albert, a cat who has captured the hearts of internet users everywhere.
As his Instagram bio suggests, Pompous Albert was a rejected show Selkirk Rex cat, named after Albert Einstein.
He found his forever home in an office of a small business based in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he lived with a couple of other cats.
Albert’s unique appearance set him apart, prompting his owners to share his photo online, hoping to bring a smile to someone’s face.
However, they never expected their grumpy-looking office cat to become an overnight sensation…
Albert’s owners shared several photos of their cat, all of which took the Internet by storm.
Thousands of people liked and shared them, after which Albert’s owners decided to open a dedicated Instagram account for their little Salt Lake City feline star.
The photos were taken in many different situations, but they all had one thing in common – Albert’s sulky face.
No matter the scenario, his facial expressions seemed unimpressed by everything.
Whether he was being petted or left alone, Pompous Albert remained true to his name, his expressions seeming to judge everyone around him.
Just take a look at some of his photos. Don’t you feel judged by his stare?
If you think that Albert’s owners shared his pictures solely for their own benefit, you’re sorely mistaken. They actually leveraged his Internet fame for a great cause – promoting pet adoption and rescue efforts. Pretty awesome, right?
Farewell To Pompous Albert
Sadly, like many good things, the story of Pompous Albert has come to an end. After years of judging everyone from his office perch, this iconic grumpy kitty crossed the Rainbow Bridge suddenly but painlessly.
Heartbroken, his owners shared the news with Albert’s Instagram fans, posting an adorable slideshow of his photos with a caption from Albert’s perspective:
The post said:
After living & sharing my most exceptional life, with you my loyal fans, co-workers & family– My brilliant life has come to an end. I could not have asked for more, a voice for uniqueness, sarcasm, adoption/rescue & humor. I had feline friends Lucky & Buddy, my cat dad Mike aka Ned. I was sweeter than I let on, but still loved biting & clawing hair & pushing things off desks. I enjoyed my fame as it gave me all of you wonderful followers whom I felt were friends.”
They concluded with:
“Oh what a ride, so I’m off to the rainbow bridge where I shall hang out with new friends eternally in a never-ending sunny spot. Oh, what is the office going to do without me?”
I’m not sure how his office is coping without him, but I’m certain they all miss him dearly. Losing a pet is always hard, especially one as fabulous and pompous as Albert was.
