Cats are naturally curious creatures, and their love for heights often leads to them exploring the highest spots they can find.

Unfortunately, their adventurous nature can sometimes result in unexpected situations, just like one particular feline’s wild adventure in San Antonio, Texas.

On an ordinary day, Animal Care Services (ACS) received an urgent call about a cat stuck on a ledge above a busy highway overpass.

When the rescue team arrived, they saw the orange cat precariously perched high above the ground, looking both calm and vulnerable at the same time.

Realising how dangerous the situation was, the team knew they had to act quickly and carefully to avoid scaring the cat into jumping from his perch.

Describing their methodical approach, ACS shared on their Facebook page:

“When they arrived, they found the cat lying on the edge of the overpass’s ledge and approached with extreme care so as not to spook the cat into jumping from his precarious position.”

The cat, later named Bridges, wasn’t exactly thrilled to see the rescuers. As they approached, he hissed loudly and shot them wary glares, clearly suspicious of their intentions.

But the rescue team remained calm and patient, understanding the cat’s hesitation. They respected his space and took slow, measured steps, ensuring they wouldn’t startle him further.

Gradually, Bridges began to realise that the rescuers meant him no harm. As they kept their movements gentle and their words soothing, he started to relax.

His body became less tense, and the hissing stopped. Slowly but surely, the team was able to get closer and safely lift him from the ledge.

But Bridges’ adventure wasn’t over yet. Once he was out of immediate danger, it was clear that he was in need of medical attention.

Having been stuck on that ledge for an unknown amount of time, it was uncertain whether he had access to food or water. The team immediately rushed him to the emergency vet.

ACS detailed the next steps, saying:

“Once safely secured, the officers transported stunt devil Bridges to Animal Emergency Room (AER) to get him thoroughly checked out, as they were unsure how long he had been without food or water up on that ledge.”

Fortunately, Bridges was in better shape than expected. Aside from a respiratory infection, he was otherwise healthy.

The vet’s care provided the comfort he needed, and ACS took him back to their shelter where he could recover properly. They provided him with a warm meal and fresh water, much to his relief. ACS shared an update on his condition:

“Bridges was a bit ravenous when offered food and water and seems to have a bit of an upper respiratory infection… but otherwise appears to be in good health! He is now resting up and feeling more himself in our adoptable cat building.”

Just when the rescue team thought their work was done, they received a surprise. Bridges wasn’t just any stray cat.

As it turns out, he was a missing pet named Oliver. His family had been searching tirelessly for him after he went missing. Upon hearing about the shelter’s post on Bridges, they immediately rushed to the facility in hopes of finding him.

When they arrived and called out to him, Oliver responded immediately, much to the joy and relief of his family. ACS shared a heartwarming update:

“They quickly made their way to ACS and nearly erupted in tears when their sweet Olly greeted them when they called his name!”

The reunion was a touching moment for everyone involved. Oliver was finally back with his family, safe and sound, and once again in the comfort of a home where he truly belonged. The ACS staff couldn’t help but feel fulfilled, knowing they played a crucial role in reuniting a family with their beloved pet.
