Atlanta Shelter’s Low-Budget Cat Ad Is So Hilarious It Deserves An Oscar
When you think about major commercials, your mind probably goes straight to fancy sets, polished actors, and pricey production teams.
But every now and then, something truly special comes from the simplest setup.
In this case, all it took was a camera, a handful of kind volunteers, and, of course, a bunch of adorable cats.

In Atlanta, Georgia, Furkids Animal Rescue and Shelter, a non-profit organization with a no-euthanasia policy, has been saving lives for years.
With over 5,000 animals rescued annually, they work tirelessly to give homeless cats and dogs a chance at the life they deserve.
But while they’ve always been passionate about adoption, they wanted to do something different to catch people’s attention. And that’s how the now-famous “Kitty Kommercial” was born.

The idea was simple but brilliant: create a parody-style commercial that would be funny, relatable, and impossible to forget. And that’s exactly what happened.
The video was completely improvised and filmed by Helen Preston and her brother Paul, both longtime Furkids volunteers.
Paul stepped into the role of a fast-talking car salesman, only this time, instead of cars, he was “selling” cats of every size, color, and personality.

He leaned into every cheesy sales trick in the book, while Helen helped behind the scenes. She even jumped in front of the camera to mimic one of those inflatable tube men that flail around in front of car dealerships.
The best part? Their “budget” was basically nonexistent. The only cost was a few cans of cat food to keep the furry stars happy.
The entire shoot lasted 30 minutes, and editing the footage took about an hour. In less than two hours, they had created a commercial that would soon be seen by millions.

And the response was bigger than anyone could’ve imagined. The video didn’t just make people laugh; it inspired them.
According to Furkids’ executive director and founder, Samantha Shelton, adoption applications skyrocketed by 50 percent after the video went viral, and donations poured in from all over. She shared in a YouTube video:
“The general outpouring of support and enthusiasm for the project has just been phenomenal. We just really hope that this will inspire people to get involved in their local shelter and adopt.”

What started as a fun, spur-of-the-moment idea turned into one of the most successful campaigns the shelter has ever seen.
This ad is proof that you don’t need a big budget to make a big impact. All you really need is creativity, heart, and a good sense of humor.
So if you haven’t watched the Kitty Kommercial yet, you’re in for a treat. Grab a seat, prepare to laugh, and maybe even meet your next furry best friend.
