California Team Finds A Terrified Pup At A Drive-Thru, Then See A Strange Thing On Her Neck

Jaina and Ivy Spagis, the dedicated rescuers from Cats of San Bernardino, were simply heading out for a coffee when fate had other plans.
As they pulled into the Starbucks drive-thru, a large gray-and-white dog suddenly dashed across their path, weaving through the lane with her tail tucked tight in fear.
She looked scared, lost, and completely out of place in the chaotic parking lot. Something about her struck a chord with them right away.

As they watched her more closely, they noticed something odd: there was a piece of fabric tied around her neck.
It looked like pants, but why would a dog have something like that on? The sight only deepened their concern.
Though Jaina and Ivy typically focused on rescuing cats, they had enough experience saving animals to recognize when one needed immediate help. And this sweet, frightened pup? She needed them more than anything.

With careful steps, the couple approached, hoping not to scare her away. The poor girl kept glancing around as if searching for someone she’d lost. But there was no one there.
As she slowly backed away, the dog gave the faintest, uncertain wag of her tail – like she wanted to trust them but wasn’t quite sure. So, they spoke gently, taking their time to win her over.
Then, something truly heartwarming happened. As Spagis knelt down, the dog walked right up to her, licked her hands, and then flopped onto her back, offering her belly as if to say, “Okay… I’ll trust you.”

That moment changed everything. The fear in her eyes disappeared as she soaked up the love she had been missing for so long. They showered her with pets, scratches, and sweet words, letting her know she was finally safe.
To make the moment even sweeter, they rewarded her with a cup of whipped cream just for her. As she happily licked it up, they carefully untied the fabric from around her neck, only to discover it was a sweatshirt.
Why someone had tied it around her like that, they couldn’t say. But one thing was clear: this dog had a story to tell.

The dog was affectionately named Bette, and once she finished her treat, she happily hopped into the car as if she knew she had found her people. They took her directly to the vet, where they found a microchip.
They hoped she had a family looking for her. But that hope faded as soon as they made the call, as Cats of San Bernardino shared on Instagram:
“We were able to contact the owner today and found out that he moved away and couldn’t take her. He said he gave the dog to someone else, but he didn’t have their info, so we doubt that story… We asked if he wanted her back, and he said, ‘No.’”
This sweet pup had been left behind by the very people she trusted. But as her rescuers gazed into her eyes, filled with trust and gratitude, they knew there was no turning back.

She deserved so much more. She deserved a home where she would be loved and cherished forever.
Since their rescue mainly focused on cats and wasn’t prepared for dogs, they quickly found her a loving foster home where she could stay safe while they made plans.
A week later, everything was in place, and the rescue was able to welcome her into their care.

Now, Bette is thriving at Cats of San Bernardino. Her eyes finally sparkle with happiness and she can’t stop wagging her tail, knowing she’s loved.
However, that’s not the end of Bette’s story. She’s still waiting for her forever home, and with so many people interested, it’s only a matter of time before she finds the perfect family.
Her journey hasn’t been easy, but the best is still ahead. I just hope the future brings her all the love and happiness she truly deserves!
