It’s common for people to choose their pets; however, sometimes, pets choose their humans. If you don’t believe this, just wait until you dive into this lovely story. I’m sure it will change your mind.
A woman named Allison was a happy pet parent to a dog named Nellie and a ginger cat named Baby.
One day, as she was enjoying some quiet time by the window with Baby in her lap, she noticed something unusual—an event that would lead to an unexpected turn in her life.
A Curious Encounter
As Allison sat by the window, a furry figure suddenly caught her attention. A black cat had wandered into her backyard, moving about as though it had lived there his entire life.
Allison had no idea who the cat belonged to or where it had come from, but before she could process what she was seeing, another surprise appeared.
A black-and-white cat emerged, seemingly out of nowhere, and settled into her backyard alongside the black feline. Seeing the two adorable felines, Allison knew she had to win them over.
She began bringing out snacks and sitting with them in the yard to help them grow accustomed to her presence. Slowly but surely, her plan started to work.
Building Trust
Allison affectionately named the black kitty Dexter and the black-and-white one, Daisy, as a sign of their new and fresh start in life.
She played with the pair and noticed a breakthrough when they finally began to trust her. Allison shared in an interview:
“Toys were definitely a big milestone that helped them warm up to me.”
After gaining their trust, Allison’s next plan was to capture them in the carriers and take them to the veterinary clinic for a thorough examination.
To prepare, she started leaving the carriers in the backyard daily, allowing the cats to explore and grow comfortable with them.
Dexter and Daisy’s curiosity got the better of them, and they began walking in and out of the carriers, even enjoying snacks inside them.
From Backyard To Forever Home
One day, Allison successfully captured Daisy in a carrier and took her to the vet for spaying and a health check. Dexter, however, was more cautious and took an additional week to capture.
After both cats received the necessary care, it was time to introduce them to their new home and family. To Allison’s surprise, Nellie and Baby quickly accepted the new additions. She shared:
“Baby’s taking on his role as the adult in the family. And then Daisy is still shy. Dexter’s kind of more like a dog, like Nellie. He’s just a big floof.”

Now, this big furry family is thriving in life with their favorite human Allison by their side. Thanks to her, these two felines, Dexter and Daisy, finally have a forever home and a family to love.
You see, while Allison worked hard to earn their trust and give them a home, Dexter and Daisy were the ones who made the first move – choosing her backyard as their safe haven and deciding to stay forever.
